I was hired as a drug counselor for Family Care for the new mandated Welfare to Work program. I gave presentations to new applicants how barriers such as substance abuse, mental health and domestic violence impacted individuals to be able to be gainfully employed. I gave presentation daily. I met with individuals to assessing their barriers to employment. Performed total substance abuse assessment and delay their requires for welfare. This was done weekly individual counseling and group sessions. Individuals with mental health issues were referred to mental health counselor. Individuals with domestic violence issues were referred to case manager on the unit.

I was briefly assigned to Child Protective Services prior to starting my Masters Degree at California State University, Fresno.

Courage to Change June 2004 to July 2006

After graduating from CSU, Fresno I became employed at a 24 bed juvenile facility. I was hired as a social worker and substance abuse counselor. The juveniles were teenagers referred to Courage to Change mental health services provided by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker while I as a social worker assess placement referrals, provided substance abuse counseling providing group and individuals therapy under the supervision of the LCSW. I provided quarterly reports to referring county and juvenile court.

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, California Substance Abuse Facility at Corcoran. September 2006 to December 2010

I was hired as a Clinical Social Worker while gathering hours towards LSCW. My duties included assessing new arrivals and patients on my case load. New arrivals were interviewed gathering family and individual history, identifying patients were potentially a danger to themselves or and others. A Global Assessment of Functioning. New arrival were then given a diagnosis and scheduled to meet with the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) which was chaired by mental health clinician, a psychiatrist, correctional counselor and if required a medical doctor. Patients requiring mental health were required to renew their treatment plan to be continued or discharged from mental health services.

Weekly review of patients records were reviewed by clinicians to identify misdiagnoses, completion of required tasks such as treatment plan being updated, diagnosis and parole discharge plan.
