I was in charge of a team of around 35 people. It is my responsibility to keep the plant running safely and efficiently in order to produce an average of 100 tons of dog food in an 8 hour shift. I make sure that the team has what was need to win the day ie. proper training, the right tools, proper PPE, and staffing. I take care of time cards using Kronos and used Excel spreadsheets on a daily basis. Integrated Work Group (IWG) is a position for those who are interested in becoming a supervisor. This was one step beneath a supervisor though they had many of the same responsibilities. While I held this role I was in charge of the warehouse inventory, incoming and out going loads, distribution of work to the shipping team. I performed vendor site checks on bulk ingredients, I printed BOL's, and checked in drivers. When overtime was needed I would ask for volunteers and force the least senior person to cover it when necessary.

I was hired in as a packer where I worked closely with multiple conveyors for all different types and many pinch points, sorting bad pouches and packing good ones into moving cartons. I remained there for a year and a half until I placed a bid for a Packing Operator where I stayed for 4 years. Operators are in charge of keeps the machines magazines full of cases and cartons. They keep the machines running by making mechanical adjustments and clearing jams safely and efficiently. Also they changeover the packaging, change the code dates, and make adjustments (if needed) before they start the next run. There was an opportunity to go to 1st shift as a packer, which is where I am currently. I am looking for any opportunity to climb up within the company but it has been made apparent that my current employer will not offer that.

On a daily basis I would operate industrial size front loaders, 40 ton haul trucks, JLG lifts, jumbo drills, and backhoe scalers. Move materials (rock) from one side of the quarry to stock piles where you had to back up them to dump, I also scaled down loose rock from work areas. Inspect each work area before and after any work is done in that area. Use survey pins to markup a work area to ensure that the mine headings stay straight. Handle explosives daily and wire them up. I was responsible for checking time cards and vacation day.
