Human Resources Manager/ HRBP June 2013 – June 2023

Tampa Armature Works (TAW, Inc.) is a leading industrial equipment distribution and services company, partnering with customers in a variety of industries to meet their complex power needs while maintaining quality and reliability.

HR Management:

•Planned and directed all HR department functions overseeing six team members. Supported 512 employees with 13 locations in FL and AL. Previously supported up to 685 employees with 17 locations in FL, GA, LA, MS, AL, and the Dominican Republic.

•Collaborated and planned Open Enrollment meetings, health fairs, wellness programs and initiatives with Benefits team.

•Advised managers on employee relations for corrective, disciplinary, and termination issues at all employee levels.

•Reviewed, oversaw, and handled all job eliminations, terminations, lay-offs, and call backs. Provided leadership in verifying employee data to ensure no desperate action was taken against employees when RIFs occurred.

•Partnered with management, at all levels, to complete needs analysis and implement detailed succession planning.

•Administered and managed the yearly and monthly performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within the organization. Conducted exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.

HR Compliance Issues:

•Developed, implemented, and managed the company’s Non-Solicitation/Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure documents.

•Conducted investigations including harassment/discrimination, theft, payroll, management, and employee relations and resolved employee disputes. Maintained department records and reports for compliance, analysis, and planning.

•Ensured all HR-related compliance and reporting were completed for EEOC, FMLA, ADA, I-9’s, E-Verify, Affirmative Action and OFCCP, etc. Underwent and completed EEOC and DOL audits with no legal actions against the company.

•Led impactful management and employee training by conducting yearly webinars and recorded sessions, covering topics on corrective/disciplinary action process, professional development, evaluation/performance view system, FMLA/ ADA, hiring, terminations, promotions, ethics, diversity, and anti-harassment.

•Coordinated with Safety, Health and Environmental Director and Fleet/Facilities Manager on worker’s compensation. Participated in reviews with brokers on the company’s EMR and TRIR. Discussed open worker’s compensation cases.

Recruiting and Talent Acquisition:

•Provided leadership in talent acquisition – gathering and reviewing compensation data in the market and of current employees to remain competitive from a compensation standpoint for retention of employees and to attract new hires.

•Oversaw recruiting to include onboarding, staffing plans and initiatives, and succession planning to meet company goals.

•Participated and implemented the company's first ATS (Applicant Tracking System) and Onboarding program.

Union Workforce Activities:

•Facilitated Union grievances and participated with management towards their resolution, while maintaining positive Union and TAW employee relationships. Worked with management and the Union on three IBEW contract negotiations.

•Played a key role in successfully defeating a Union organization at a non-union facility. This occurred during quickie elections in 2015. Out of the six quickie elections in FL, TAW was one of only two companies that did not unionize.

•and arbitrations. The Company has successfully won all six of the arbitrations that were brought before FMCS arbitrators.

COVID-19 HR Leadership (Essential Business and Essential Workers):

•Served as an active member of the TAW COVID-19 Response Team. Developed detailed Work-from-Home policies.

•Partnered with Safety, Health and Environmental Director on COVID-19 guidelines, procedures, and their distribution.

•Reported directly to CEO/CFO on all matters concerning COVID-19. Oversaw the bi-weekly TEAMS meetings with the management teams on updates of COVID-19 cases, initiatives, and directives, following CDC and WHO guidelines.

•Proactively identified and engaged with a testing company, to come on site to five TAW locations to perform COVID-19 testing, which proved to be effective in identifying cases and helping to limit the spread of the virus.

Notable Accomplishments:

•Oversaw all aspects of benefits arena (claims reviews, negotiations for medical, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits). In 2021, offered richer medical benefits while saving team members 10% off their premiums from the previous year.

•Achieved $20K savings via skillful representation in unemployment hearings, securing an impressive 95% success rate.

•Streamlined and created a new evaluation and pay practices system to ensure compliance and pay consistency.

•Directed employee engagement implementation measurements and developed survey questions to gauge the pulse of employees for employee engagement, earning an initial 84% participation rate.

•Served a member of the company's emergency response team. This was notable when implementing and planning for hurricanes. Created and sent out notices to employees, organized planning calls with executives and members of management throughout the company.

Recruiting Supervisor August 2012 – June 2013

•Oversaw the day-to-day recruiting efforts and supervised two Recruiters and one Administrative Assistant for exempt and non-exempt positions for all locations. Responsible for overseeing the department when the HR Manager was not present or when assistance was needed. Conducted investigations and assisted with employee relations.

•Reviewed open positions and delegated requisitions in addition to providing and receiving updates on staffing progress, recruiting up to 80 positions of hard to fill positions.

Tampa Armature Works (TAW) – Riverview, FL

Recruiting Specialist March 2003 – August 2012

•Recruited and sourced candidates for all exempt and non-exempt positions for 18 locations in FL, GA, LA, MS, AL, and the Dominican Republic. Assisted the HR Manager in rapidly scaling the HR Department from two employees to 14. In a span of two years, recruited over 200 employees from 400 to over 600 team members.

•Assured Affirmative action compliance as it pertains to job placement, pre-hire data collection and applicant flow.

•Introduced a more streamlined process of interviewing. Expanded and created interview questions and evaluation process. Developed and maintained interview questions for all positions for more standardized interviews.

•Actively involved in TAP program at MacDill Air Force base to assist military personnel in transition to civilian life.

•Participated in an informational video on interviewing that was created by the Hillsborough County Workforce to assist Veterans in their transition to civilian life. Video was shown at Workforce Centers as well as on YouTube.
