Chemical modification and fluorescent labeling of Ad, AAV, and lentiviral vectors;

Developing a magnetic delivery/targeting catheter and characterizing it in the porcine femoral model;

Macrophage biology in vasculo-proliferative diseases;

Elucidating the role of macrophage polarization in in-stent restenosis;

Developing AAV-eluting stents;

Comparing the long-term effects of permanent metal stents and biodegradable polymeric stents on arterial remodeling and restenosis;

Improved histological processing of stented arteries (tissue-sparing chemical stent dissolution);

Developing a software for automatic analysis of microscopic images;

Surface modification of Ad and AAV vectors with proteolytic enzymes for enhanced vector spread through solid tumors;

AAV-based gene delivery of an oxidation-resistant apoA1 variant (apoA1-4WF) for the prevention of restenosis in the porcine coronary model;

The anti-atherosclerotic and anti-restenotic effects of blood outgrowth endothelial cells transduced with wild-type apoA1 and apoA1-4WF;

Accelerated reendothelialization of endovascular stents using the enhanced attachment of biotinylated endothelial cells to avidin-functionalized stents;

Stent functionalization with CD47 and CD47-derived peptides for the prevention of in-stent restenosis in the rabbit iliac model.

Authored and published 25 research studies, six reviews/book chapters, and 31 conference abstracts.

Developing anti-knob antibody-based and CAR-D1-based adaptors for targeted delivery of Ad vectors;

Magnetic field-facilitated delivery of Ad/magnetic nanoparticle complexes in vitro and in vivo;

Developing gene-eluting stents;

Bioluminescence-based detection of reactive oxygen species in the stent-injured vessel wall;

Developing a new rat model of carotid artery stenting and adapting it for use in gene-eluting stent studies.

Authored and published 16 research papers, four reviews/book chapters, and 18 conference abstracts.

Courses taught include Principles of Cardiovascular Biology and a seminar on Cardiovascular Gene Therapy.
