Mechanical Design Engineer

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron which produces bright light that scientists can use to study anything from fossils to jet engines to viruses and vaccines. Led and delivered the X-Ray Emissions Spectroscopy project (XES) project with a value of £200K for the Von Hamos Spectrometer from conceptual design through installation of Spectrometer into the beamline.

Prepared test plans and validation procedures for actuators to meet the repeatability for precise crystals’ alignment.

Examined and approved the vacuum vessels along with inhouse Vacuum Engineering team for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, surface finish etc., to qualify for Ultra High Vacuum applications.

Captured Scientists requirements through project review meetings, evaluated the requirements for feasibility, and defined the project scope for the delivery of a £20M Coherent Soft X-Ray Imaging and Diffraction (CSXID) beamline.

Developed conceptual design to study constraints on spatial requirements for mechanisms, Vacuum, Cryogenic, and samples transfer requirements for the given project scopes.
