At the Obesity Research Center, during the past 2 years, I have been involved in various clinical trials as a part of my postdoctoral training; following is a list of some of these studies:

clamp technique to test a

new drug for management of diabetes (25 males);

Study looking at the effect of different types of diet on nutrient utilization and oxidation in a group of lean and obese women (n =30), using the 24 hrs. calorimeter chamber and body composition.

-

hormone.

Study sponsored by "Pfizer" for comparing two drugs by minimal model intravenous glucose tolerance test in schizophrenic patients.

To identify the difference in nutrient utilization in lean and obese women (n=29) including muscle biopsy for determination of lipoprotein lipase activity (Presented in FASEB 2000, San Diego, April 15-18).

Investigating the role of amylin in gastric motility in obese subjects with and without eating (n=72). (Pilot study)

Calibration of MRI technique for in vivo measuring body composition and organ size in rats (Presented in NAASO 2000, Long Beach, CA October 29-November 2). My involvement as a research fellow included participation in the generation of hypothesis and preparation of protocols. Moreover, I performed the screening procedures, data analysis, and compilation of the information and data for National Conference Presentations, and abstracts and manuscript preparation. Also I submitted a 7

research proposal to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in which I was the Principal which was

accepted for funding in 1998.

B. Research Associate, Nutrition Institute, Ministry of Health, Cairo, Egypt, 5/95-7/98. I was responsible for outpatient clinic for providing primary medical care for a wide variety of patient. At this point I started to develop interest in internal medicine, endocrinology and medical nutrition.

D. Research Co-Investigator, for the study titled "Prevalence of Iodine Deficiency Disorde

& 95. My role in this study was to clinically examine all the participants included in the study. Outcomes of the study were presented at the IEA Eastern Mediterranean Regional Meeting 199; Alexandria, Egypt. E. Resident, Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition Institute, Ministry of Health, Cairo, Egypt, Sep 91-Sep 94.

F. Visiting Fellow, in Internal Medicine, Therapeutics and Nutrition, Saint-André Hospital, University Hospital of Bordeaux University, France, May 93-July 93. G. Intern in General Medicine, Public-civil Hospital, Ministry of Health, 3/89 8/89. H. Intern in General Surgery, University Hospital of Alexandria University, 9/89-2/90. President, Egyptian Society for Public Health & Nutrition (NGO), 2010-2017: Being the President of the Egyptian Society for Public Health and Nutrition since 2010, allowed me to found and develop strategic programs and legislations for the Food Safety Administration (FSA.) I also had the privilege to be a lecturer in public and private sectors for health and nutrition topics, and founder and manager of numerous nutrition health clinics, locally and regionally. This has allowed me to deal with thousands of cross- cultural patients from different social classes and economic backgrounds. At an international level, I started as a consultant in two UNICEF projects and one WHO assignment and I was also assigned by the European Chamber of Commerce to lead the Mediterranean Diet Program, a project funded by the European Union. My role was to prepare the educational material and fully conduct the workshops covering Nutrition Education for teachers and local authorities in the Alexandria Governorate. Academically, I was also a lecturer for an international pharmaceutical company for physicians and healthcare professionals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and I was chosen by the Vice President of the Saudi Arabian Society for Food and Nutrition to become a mentor and instructor towards continuous Medical Education for physicians and dietitians working in the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health from 2015 until present day. From such an experience I learned to deal with meeting deadlines, striving under pressure, handling criticism and learning how to excel independently and/or with a team. The 8

challenge of building resilience to food insecurity has made me eager to widen my scope of knowledge regarding environmental studies. How the world is evolving in parallel to food needs and nutrition is a topic that inspires me. Integrating climate change in the causative and curative relation to achieve health, improve nutrition, shared prosperity and promote sustainable agriculture with emphasis on agribusiness towards SDG is a matter I would like to deeply and passionately explore. The link between air pollution, lung cancer and NCDs has clearly been defined; we started the initiative to ban the use of wood burning ovens in homes of rural areas. My extensive background, studies and field work have enabled me to lead and coordinate many sectors nationally and internationally.

In November 2017, I launched an initiative for Alexandria Sporting Club, which hosts factors such as smoking, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, and obesity. My initiative was highly appreciated and accepted by the newly elected Board Members, upon which I was requested to become a member of the Medical Health Committee & Chief of Nutrition Medical Committee, in charge of health promotion and proper nutrition. The following workshops and lectures were conducted during this period

1. Feb 3rd, 2019 Club free from chronic diseases

2.

3. April 22nd Nutrition Mindset

ENVR E-170 Environmental and Health Impact Assessments for International Projects is an essential prerequisite for designing, evaluating, and replicating sustainable projects and programs. This course reviews key tools to assess 11

programs that focus on protection of natural resources, impacts on human health, and poverty reduction. Students learn frameworks for applying project and program analysis and making economic decisions that support sustainability. Lectures and individual assignments analyze case studies from many developing countries. Group activities include strategic decision making and integrated assessment methodologies in the energy and water sectors. At the end of the course, students are able to apply practical methodologies that inform prudent investment decisions and support environmental sustainability, and economic and social growth. Harvard University; spring 2016.

ENVR E-165 Human Health and Global Environmental Change. Human activity is changing the atmosphere and altering terrestrial and marine ecosystems on a global scale. Evidence is mounting that these changes may already be having serious effects on human health, and there is growing concern that in coming decades the effects could be catastrophic. This course was developed because the practice of public health in this century requires an understanding of the relationship between human health and the global environment. It provides an overview of climate change and biodiversity loss, two key examples of global environmental change, and the potential consequences for human health. It also explores solutions to these problems and the challenges inherent in realizing those solutions. Harvard University; spring 2016.

ENVR E-153 Social Responsibility in Product Supply Chains. In recent years, the social impacts of products and trade have risen in the agendas of policy makers, investors and corporations. With a special focus on supply chains, this course provides a detailed background on business and human rights, social responsibility

(SR), corporate sustainability strategy and social life cycle assessment (LCA). We cover both SR issues and why they matter and SR instruments and how they are applied. Students examine processes and methods to identify supply chains' salient social impacts, and reflect on their strengths and weaknesses. Students also become knowledgeable practitioners of social LCA, able to appropriately apply state-of-the-art LCA software and social LCA databases. The course also provides students the opportunity to explore various topics of interest, such as the challenge of indicator standardization, the weighting of positive and negative impacts, the utility of products to consumers, prioritization of impacts, and the identification of improvement opportunities. Harvard University, fall 2015.

ENVR E-118 Environmental Management of International Tourism Development. This course highlighted the significance of the international tourism industry, which represents approximately nine percent of the global economy, from economic and environmental management viewpoints. This is to provide us with an understanding of how the tourism business operates, primarily focusing on mainstream tourism, its supply chains, and how each sector of the business approaches environmental management. Which will allow us to present 12

consultation to governments about how to manage tourism in an innovative new system for management of growth, ENVR E-118.Harvard University, Sept 2014.
