Internship with the Thelma Lovette YWCA, located on the uptown of Pittsburgh. While in my 11th & 12th years of attending school. My internship was in the aquatic department 4 days a week, 4 hours a day. I was hired by them to stay on, after my internship hours for an additional 4-5 hours and on Saturdays. On Saturdays I taught swim classes for all ages. This was a very rewarding internship to be assigned due to the importance of pool safety and learning such intense emergency rescue procedures. In addition to this experience, I worked for the city of Pittsburgh Pools, I was a life guard part time. This was very rewarding and fun to do.

Some additional duties I did was cooking meals, planning the meals to ensure specialized diet restrictions were being followed. General daily living task, attending doctors’ appointments insuring that true and correct information was being shared, help the individual engage in social activities, assist with their hygiene care and maintaining a safe environment living areas. Documentation is a strong skill in this position. I was a member of the interdisciplinary team. This team would meet once a month and review all safety issues and recommend changes and suggest solutions to problems and concerns within the agency’s locations and staffing patterns. I would assist with working on personal goals and help individuals achieve theses goals over a period of time.

I took this job for a second job and extra income. I started out as a waiter. I enjoyed doing this job but due to the pandemic and low customers, it was a up hill battle. They switched me to a cook’s position, and this would give me steady income, but the hours were limited. I would have stayed but I need more income and more hours. It was unfortunate I had to leave, but the hours and income didn’t work for me.

Express Scripts POSITION: Customer Service Rep

I relocated to Pittsburgh From Columbia South Carolina, I worked in a call center. Answering phone calls and helping people with Medical, Prescription, approval issues. Problem solved with any issues they might have getting their medications, refills and setting up home delivery of the medications. This position was a in person job with a high call volume. I trained for short time then Covid 19 hit. The position then went remote from home. I did my best to work with no supervision from home, the was difficult for me being that was so new to the job. This was a new field for me and I resigned due to not being confident in doing an efficient job with such an important job. Unfortunately, due to Covid, there was no additional training or support they were giving to me to help improve my knowledge to be able to confidently problem solve with this position.

This position is with working with Children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities diagnoses, helping them with daily living skills and Achieving goals to increase their independence. I travel to many companies that they are contracted with to cover shifts that are unfilled or they may need additional coverage. I work with great independence and able to complete all my job duties with little to no supervision. I often get assigned to 3 different agencies and often don’t know the clients, walking in the door not knowing what to expect with their personalities and behaviors leaves me next to no time to waste. I can quickly adapt to their needs and their differences in behaviors and personalities. (some easier than others). This job is challenging and always changing. This keeps me on my toes and fulfilling challenges. I enjoy this position.

Other duties were medication administration, documentation of service notes, daily life skills planning, attending doctors’ appointments, community outings, day programs, and even working with them 1:1 in on job sites. I have good documentation skills which is needed for in this job field.
