EXPERIENCE
MAY 2014 – PRESENT
SENIOR DATA ENGINEER, eab
Production data support.
Internal system support.
I wrote and edited many SQL stored procedures.
I wrote many scripts, which reduced the amount of ad hoc coding and reduced the time to accomplish tasks from hours to minutes.
I wrote several code engines, for example one that performed a one-time insert of tens of thousands of records into thousands of tables across hundreds of databases on three servers. The engine wrote then executed the insert statements.
I built several tools for myself to improve troubleshooting, for example one that distilled dozens of dependent stored procedures into a single script.
Cooperation with other teams was vital, and I performed triage on the jira ticket system.
I was recognized as an EAB Emerging Leader, primarily for my leadership in integrating Data Support back into Engineering as part of the Agile reorganization.
Worked primarily in T-SQL, but also PL/SQL, MySQL, Postgres, Snowflake, mongo.
Exposure to Azure, snowflake, and AWS
Currently immersed in 100 Day Python Boot Camp
COVER LETTER:
Three years ago, EAB asked me to continue to develop for and support our legacy systems and manage transition to new systems being built with AWS, Azure, Snowflake, etc. Once all legacy systems were deprecated, I would transition to the new systems.
For a variety of reasons, that did not work out. Our legacy systems were officially deprecated December 31, 2023, and my last day was January 2, 2024. I departed on excellent terms; my former direct supervisor will give me an outstanding referral if asked.
Therefore, I cannot claim expertise in many of the new technologies that may companies are using. After twenty-five years in this business, I have learned many new technologies on the fly. I taught myself MS SQL well enough to succeed as a DBA and SQL developer. I taught myself .NET well enough to succeed as a .NET developer.
I was manually building Data Pipelines before Data Pipelines were well established. For example, I built the back end and front end of an ELT system that imported data from MS SQL, Oracle, MS Active Directory, and Lotus Notes. Once aggregated, I implemented rules to present the data properly.
I firmly believe that my lack of hands-on experience with the new technologies will be far offset by my experience, long track record of success learning new systems, and my professionalism.
AUGUST 2006 – MAY 2014
APPLICATION DEVELOPER AND DBA, ALSTOM
North American DBA
oAdministered a dozen MS SQL Servers throughout North America
Web Developer using .NET and MS SQL for internal applications
oBuilt an intranet including content management system.
oBuilt the front end and back end for a single source of truth employee data repository. Used SSIS to import data from disparate sources
oBuilt an inventory management system to be used on a handheld PC with scanner input
oSupported and enhanced the database for an off-the-shelf yet highly customizable manufacturing work flow system
oWrote a Push to Prod app to move applications from Dev to Staging to Production
oWhen doing KT prior to my departure, I was asked how much time I spent supporting my apps. I replied about ten hours. They said ten hours a week isn't bad! I replied, no, ten hours a year. I build robust and scalable stuff
