WORKING EXPERIENCE

1.Employer: ZRP Gwanda Transport Workshop, Gwanda.

Position: Auto Electrician (January 2017 to date)

Responsibilities:

Maintaining vehicles, which may include a company’s fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, tractor/trailers, and other motor vehicles.

Performing routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes, changing air filters, fuel filters, pollen filters, brake pads, brake shoes, bleeding of brakes both manually and automatically, replacing oscillation dumpers and also performing engine tune-ups.

Performing tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.

Identifying mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.

Examining critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.

Repairing and replacing malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, drive belts, replacing auto electrical spares such as alternators, starer motors, flasher units, bulbs, electrical harness, fuel pumps and many others and other mechanical parts.

Tracing electrical circuits and wiring to determine open circuits and short circuits and other vehicle electrical faults.

Planning and establishing timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.

Visiting job sites to inspect vehicles.

Test driving vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.

Performing any other related duties as assigned.

2.Employer: BULAWAYO CROCO MOTORS - ZIMBABWE

Position: Artisan (FEBRUARY 2023 TO JULY 2023)

From time to time ZRP TRANSPORT WORKSHOP attaches its artisans to CROCO MOTORS in order to gain experience and familiarization on some of new state of the art vehicles. That is when I got the opportunity to get attached to the company for a period of six months as highlighted above.

Responsibilities:

Performing diagnosis on all vehicles brought to the Workshop by clients when necessary to do so to determine eletrical faults.

Carrying out vehicle inspections and quotations for customers.

Carrying out minor and major services on vehicles: changing engine oil, checking level of other fluids such as automatic transmission fluids, brake fluid, clash fluid and power steering fluid. Changing filters such as pollen filters, air filters and fuel filters. Changing brake pads and brake shoes when necessary. Changing fuel pumps. Replacing brake pads, brake shoes and oscillation dampers.

Conducting repairs aiming for maximum reliability: Performing repairs on spares such as alternators and starter motors by dismantling, repairing and assembling to mitigate costs of buying new spares over very trivial faults such as warn out brushes or malfunction regulator.

Troubleshooting reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.

Troubleshooting using both diagnostic machines and manually. Tracing circuits for open and short circuits and other vehicle faults.

Conducting beam focusing using beam focusing machine.

Conducting field day on fleet of vehicles at companies which would have bought the vehicles from CROCO MOTORS, that is, carrying out vehicle servicing and routine maintenance.

Performing thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems.

Cleaning and applying lubricants on vehicle components.

Replenishing fluids and components of engines and machinery.

Providing consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.

Undertaking other duties as assigned (e.g. test driving vehicles after repairs).

Keeping logs of work and report on issues.
