I provided support and worked for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at a clinic located in Arvada, CO. As a Behavioral Technician, I was primarily tasked with individually working with several different children, typically handling between three to four children on a daily basis, and occasionally simultaneously engaging with two children briefly (to help out), all ranging between the ages of 2 to 14 years old. These children exhibited a range of behaviors on the Autism Spectrum Disorder chart, varying from mild to severe behavioral disorders. Behavioral Technician: I worked part-time with minor clients who have autism at a clinic in Broomfield CO. I was also on the first DEI Council for Autism Learning Partners Inc. As a Behavioral Technician, it was my job to work individually with children between the ages of 4 years and 10 years old. I continuously carried out my duties by implementing treatment plans that aimed to decrease negative behaviors and enhance skills using scientifically-validated ABA therapy, also referred to as Applied Behavioral Analysis. These specific treatment plans were designed for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA), which entails helping the client with their daily tasks, observing their actions, documenting and gathering information on their advancements through the Central Reach program, and liaising with both the family and the Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA). My main responsibility was to work with a 3.5-year-old boy, but I also provided occasional assistance to other Behavioral Technicians with their children. I was employed at Santa Fe House, a facility that provides housing for individuals with mild to moderate mental illnesses, as well as a couple of severely depressed patients who were temporarily unable to independently lead a typical lifestyle.On most weekends, I would usually work for 34 hours per week, and sometimes I would also have shifts on weekdays, adding up to a total of 40-42 hours per week. I was responsible for providing counseling and educating patients on life, social, and communication skills. The partnership with multiple companies facilitated the acquisition of funding and support. Moreover, I had the task of supervising the group of volunteers assigned to participate in each outing. This involved organizing, coordinating, and planning the volunteers' tasks to assist children with disabilities during a trip. I also had to operate a specially equipped mini bus to transport both the children and volunteers on our outing. Excursions encompass various social activities like visiting the museum, the Toronto Zoo and its’ summer program, and other educational establishments. I created and introduced a few unique and innovative initiatives, such as an customized Airbrush Arts program, a comprehensive Arts and Crafts program for all patients in 4 different wards (every ward serves different age ranges) in the hospitals, and a specifically tailored Toy Testing program in collaboration with a toy company located in Toronto. as well as tours to the De Havilland and Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing Companies, and many other outings to different community festivals.
