City Attorney’s Office – The City of Dallas – Dallas, Texas Jan 1994 - May 1995
LAN ADMINISTRATOR / Optical Imaging Specialist and Records Manager
1993 Dallas County lost a $23 Million case. The opposition used desk top computers. The City Attorney’s Office had NONE.
Opposition delivered 65 case files to The Dallas City Attorney’s Office. Dallas County had 1 person charged to work the case. This single attorney could not go through al the documents and develop a legal strategy. Dallas lost this case and learned that they needed to get on board with computers. The City Attorney, Sam A. Lindsay (1991-1999) contacted Apple Computer asking for help. Apple Computer was keenly aware of the Super Conducting Super Collider in Waxahachie Texas who was scanning and tracking documents in a paperless environment. The City Attorney contacted the Department of Energy office to learn of the software that was being used and who was the Records Manager’s. My name was provided and I accepted an interview.
Duties
Cross train Records personnel in the process of reviewing all documents to ensure all pertinent and required information was on the document.
Create a Circle Back tracking process for failed documents to be returned to the appropriate department – what was missing or incorrect and how to return the document(s) to the Attorneys office.
The process for control number alteration and linking of old document(s) to revised and accepted documents.
Create process for document retention, document control numbers and the assignment to the appropriate department. (See below)
Create a training for 40 admins and attorneys on how to use the search feature etc.
