Succeeded in being a top studentin a combined graduate and undergraduate level class with frequent field trips that included an expedition to Valles Caldera in New Mexico. Achieved a grade of “A” in the class and learned how to consistently relate the petrogenic histories of igneous and metamorphic rock samples. Learned to skillfully distinguish between andesite, granite, basalt and high and low grade metamorphic rocks, and became even more adept at using a polarizing microscope to positively identify an extensive range of minerals.
Sedimentology and Stratigraphy2018
Succeeded in being a top student in this combined graduate and undergraduate level class. Achieved a grade of “A” and learned how to determine formation, transport, and deposition processes of sedimentology, as well as a wide range of depositional environments. This course involved multiple trips to the field throughout southern New Mexico.
Mineralogy and Optical Mineralogy2017
Succeeded in being a top student in both courses with grades of “A’s”. Became skilled at crystallography as well as the physical and chemical components of minerals and their formational environments. Achieved a grade of “A” in the final practical exam which involved identifying over 50 minerals based on their physical properties. My positon involved working on the exploration side of the oil and gas industry. I served as a third-party contractor for Edge Systems, and worked on oil rigs operated by Chevron, Devon, Conoco Phillips, Endeavor and Marathon Oil, to name a few. I collected cuttings from the shakers and analyzed them using a microscope and various chemicals to determine the type of rock and minerals that werepresent. From these, I create a detailed mudlog using either Wellsite or T-Log. I also used a DAQ or Yellowbox (gas chromatograpth), and at times, a mass spectrometer which measures and differentiates the amount of gases (C1,C2,C3 IC4, NC4) present while drilling through the stratigraphy. I received 4 promotions over the course of a year, and regularly ran projects involving 6 or more sample catchers. I also frequently trained new- hires in mud logging, and solved a variety of computer related, and technical problems.
