1.1 School Objectives

Our school is dedicated to advancing and preparing students for the professional field of cosmetology. Creating and fostering an environment that focuses on communal empowerment. Our students will obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the State Board exam, but also applicable to different areas of their lives. 1.3 Hours of Operation

4.0 School Programs

4.1 Overview of the Cosmetologist Training Program The cosmetology training program consists of a total of 1500 hours of training and instruction. Classes are designed for full-time students Tusday through Friday in six (6) hour blocks or 36 hours a week. Part-Time students will receive a training block of four (4) hours or 20 hours a week. The first 300 hours will consist of foundational cosmetology skills and learning. Once students have achieved 300 hours of freshman instruction, they will be learning practical applications of the knowledge gained. They will be assisting with clientele and honing their skills on real customers. After reaching 1250 hours, students will begin preparing and refining their abilities to pass the Arizona State Board exam. Unit Breakdown

4.2 Overview of the Nail Tech Program

The nail tech program consists of a total of 600 hours. The first 75 hours of the course focus on preparing students with the theory and background of the nail technology field. This includes subjects such as the structure and composition of the nail. Utilizing proper techniques to identify and treat nail diseases and disorders. Students will be introduced to manicure and pedicure procedures. The different types of nail artistry materials, gels, techniques, and applications of nail design. They will also begin understanding how to run a nail salon business with proper sanitation and disinfection principles. Finally, they will be introduced to basic business concepts, such as customer service, licensing, rules, and government regulations to ensure proper compliance procedures. The next step in the program will be the practical phase where students will apply everything they learned and practice their studies. During this phase, they will either practice with other students in the school or in the clinic area with clientele. This phase of the program is created to allow the student to have artistic freedom in the creation and development of their abilities as nail technicians. With a combination of self-centered learning, cooperative mentoring, student-defined subject areas, and capstone projects, the student will have created a truly individualized program. The Esthetics program consists of a total of 600 hours. The first 125 hours of the course focus on preparing students with the theory and background of the

Aesthetics field. This includes subjects such as the structure and composition of the skin. Utilizing proper techniques to identify and treat skin diseases and disorders. Students will be introduced to facial and makeup techniques they can use to complement the client’s facial structure. They will learn different types of facial massages, utensils, techniques, and applications of facial and makeup design. They will also begin understanding how to run a makeup salon business with proper sanitation and disinfection principles. Finally, they will be introduced to basic business concepts, such as customer service, licensing, rules, and government regulations to ensure proper compliance procedures. Students will apply everything they learned and practice their studies. First, they will be using a mannequin to develop their skills and abilities. After showing sufficient ability, they will move to live models for their training. This phase of the program is created to allow the student to have artistic freedom in the creation and development of their abilities as aesthetics technicians. With a combination of self-centered learning, cooperative mentoring, student-defined subject areas, and capstone projects, students will have created a truly individualized program. Mima’s Beauty School Aesthetic Program bases its instruction on the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology defined educational standards for students. 4.4 Overview of the Instructor Program

The instructor course at Mima’s Beauty College focuses on the training educators to teach, explain, and demonstrate cosmetology concepts to students. The program is broken into two parts: education theory and its practical application. The program consists of a total of 600 hours. Instructors will utilize resources to construct engaging material for cosmetology students. Instruction will emphasize state and education standards as the basis for its lessons. Understanding school regulations, cleanliness, health, safety, and infection control standards. The instructor program will develop educators of excellent quality, capable of developing and assisting those seeking a career in cosmetology. Each teacher will develop the necessary skills to pass the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology exam.

Each section of the program is created to utilize skills and integrate the previous section. The program will concentrate on the basic principles of education and teaching. Elements of learning styles, learning theories, and other tools on how learning is constructed. Instructors will focus on building environments that facilitates learning. Develop communication skills, engaging with students and faculty, understanding strengths and weaknesses, and applying educational theories. Students will then learn how to create, prepare, format, and develop classroom materials. At the end of the program educators will have an understanding about all aspects of educational paperwork. Finally, educators will utilize all these skills to teach cosmetology students and develop their strengths. The student teaching aspect of the program allows educators to also refine their teaching abilities. Live learning will teach educators how to develop relationships with students. They will also develop the ability to manage a classroom and strategies to maintain composure and control in fluid circumstances. 4.5 Overview of the Hairstyling Program (not currently offered) The hairstyling program will consist of a total of 1000 learning hours. The first portion of the hairstyling program takes place in a classroom environment where the student will learn the theoretical background of the field of hair. They will also be taught about Arizona laws and regulations about the field of hairstyling.

Once they have achieved a total 187 hours of theory work students in the hairstyling program will be moved to the floor and assist clients.

The theory curriculum will include teaching types of hair, different hair style, chemistry of hair, color theory and other base knowledge that every hairstylist should know. Students assisting on the floor will be able to practice their abilities and grow confidence in their ability to execute what a client desire. This practical application will help them be able to obtain the confidence and knowledge necessary to obtain their hairstylist license. Testing will supplement the practical and theoretical knowledge the students will gain. Test will be split in three, one per every 300 hours or instruction. To accompany exams, there will also be smaller capstone projects that each student will have the ability to design and choose the subject matter. This way each student will have projects that personally interest them and acclimate them to the artistry of the field. Near the end of the program students will also have classes about business management that helps them develop skills as not just a hairstylist but as a professional. They will learn about how the industry of cosmetology functions, not just as a stylist.

The hairstylist program uses the Arizona Cosmetology Board’s educational standards for students as a base for its program.

5.0 Program Expectations

5.1 Grading

The following grading system will be used to evaluate students’ progress during any program at the school:

100% - 93% Excellent

92% - 85% Very Good

84% - 75% Satisfactory

74% - Below Unsatisfactory

Periodic student evaluations will be assessed to give information to each student on their progress. All assignments, workbooks, written and practical exams, must receive a minimum grade of 75%. If a student is receiving marks 74% or below, they may be assessed under academic probation. All materials are re- takeable until a minimum of 75% is reached and obtained. If a student marks below expected levels, the graduation date may be extended. For all other courses, a minimum of 80% must be met to complete the program.

5.2 Graduation Requirements

Completion of the cosmetology program consists of the following expectations:

· Completion of all paperwork required by the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology.

· Passing grade on the final exam and practical progress exams.

· Completion of all necessary workbooks and worksheets.

· Payment of all tuition owed, licensing, and exam fees.

· Complete all hours of the program enrolled: 1500 for cosmetology, 1000 for hairstyling, and 600 for all other courses.

· Minimum of a 75% grade in the cosmetology course or 80% for all other courses. 5.3 Attendance

Attendance is important to a successful academic career; therefore, the school requires an attendance rate of 80%. A call is required if a student is going to be late before the start of class. If a student is absent for 14 consecutive days without prior notice, this could result in termination from school. Time is calculated at the quarter-hour. Attendance and tardiness can extend the expected graduation date. The school has the right to charge for additional tuition hours after the expected graduation date at a rate of $17.00 an hour.

On-time attendance is defined as being prepared and ready for instruction 4 minutes and 59 seconds after class start time. Students should arrive at least 10 minutes before class time to prepare for instruction. All students should sign in at the start of the day for hours to count. Any hours lost due to not signing in may be counted toward the program under the discretion of the administration. Excessive tardies and absences can result in corrective action taken by the administration and can cause termination.

5.4 Make-Up Policies

Students are required to make up missed hours and exams. All make-up exams and classes will be scheduled at the discretion of the instruction staff. Maximum make up hours allowed is up to one (1) day of total hours per week. To be eligible for make-up time, students must be in good standing and have perfect attendance the prior week or have called in for an excused absence. Advising is available to all students enrolled in the school. Students can reach out to any teacher or administrator in the school to go over academic, professional, disciplinary issues, hours, financial assistance, conflicts, or any other area the student may need assistance. Students will have access to employment and career counseling during and after completion of the program. The school will retain information of salons and other beauty industry jobs available in the general Arizona area. Mima’s Beauty College does not guarantee employment, but the school will conduct its due diligence to assist all students find their path.

6.2 Internal Complaint Procedure

At any point an instructor, employee, student, or other party needs to file a formal complaint regarding Mima’s Beauty College operations or between two parties related to the school; they may file their complaint to the main administration office. If intervention is required, the school will do its due diligence to ensure a reasonable outcome is reached. Mima’s Beauty College encourages students to submit feedback and opinions on how the school can best operate. If a complaint needs to be filed with the State Board of Cosmetology complaints can be submitted at 1721 E Broadway Rd Tempe, AZ 85282-1611. Complains may also be issued by calling (480) 784 - 4539, by fax at 480-***-****, or online at office. Any of the following situations can be considered for disciplinary action:

· Possession of any alcohol or drug substances.

· Trade, distribution, or sale of alcohol or drug substances.

· Use of any impairing substances during school hours that have not been reported.

· Arriving at the school premises under the influence.

· Attempt to hide or store these substances on the premises.

· Interference of a school official removing alcohol or illegal drugs from school Education
