Power plant construction and its safety
Oct 2012 – Aug 2014 – HSE Superintendent / Emergency Response Trainer with Ambatovy in Madagascar, working on rotation with 6 weeks on and 2 weeks off. Duties include all aspects of safety on a large mining and plant site producing Nickel and Cobalt, including ensuring Emergency preparedness procedures and plans are in place as well as training senior management in crisis management, business continuity and recovery.
The project also consisted of a 200 KM pipeline constructed through tunnels to go under rivers and through hills to go from minesite to processing plant
As part of the Health and Safety Management team conducting risk assessments, confined space entry procedures, working at height, safety checks, permit to work and safety audits all form part of my role on this busy site employing over 7000 staff including ex-pats and locals, with many hazards including Ammonia, sulphuric acid, H2S, LPG and Cyanide (where I have written Emergency Response plans for releases of cyanide affecting workers and also affecting the environment).
Responsible for the radioactive safety on equipment on site,
Ensuring transport safety at the mine where ore is mined in an open pit with excavators and trucks
Ensuring the Safety Management system is in place and up to date and have a sound knowledge of 18001 standards.

Dec 2001- Nov 2012 Employed by Highlands & Islands Airports at Stornoway airport as fire-fighter becoming a crew manager in Dec 2004. My duties include dealing with aircraft incidents, fixed wing aircraft and both military and civilian helicopters, dealing with domestic fires in hangars or terminal building, and aircraft incidents and a trauma responder. Duties include driving instructor for trainees and driving refreshers for experienced drivers, test and inspection of fire service equipment, responding to incidents, trauma response, driving fire appliances, breathing apparatus wearer. I am also an experienced and qualified incident commander and acted as incident commander on occasions.
Environmental issues regarding airport operations was also a strong feature in Airport Fire and Rescue, particularly in the use of foams and halons as fire-fighting media and the damage to the environment.
Other duties include being snow clearance officer airside, Grassland management, bird patrols and also apron operations safety officer.
