Pilot Thomas Logistics - Provided HR services for approximately 700 employees in Oklahoma, Arkansas, East Texas and Louisiana. My functions included but were not limited to support for Sales, Field Operations, Safety, IT Department, and Support Services. These functions also included employee relations, benefits, payroll, administration, implementation/development of policy and procedure, worker’s compensation issues, recruitment and retention, new hire orientation, annual and supervisory training.

Highlights:

Partnered with management on issues regarding current company practices, which included liability regarding compliance within the DOL.

Assisted with the development and implementation of standardized corporate policy and job descriptions as Pilot had acquired several other oil companies and merged with Thomas Oil during my employment with the company.

Created an E-Survey and E-Exit Interview system to identify reasons for early employee turnover. These initiatives were a success because of the partnership with my corporate IT Department. Both programs were implemented company wide.

Developed and implemented a company-wide training program for our Customer Service and Dispatch employees. I also created a training program on effective coaching & discipline.

Frequently collaborated with the Corporate Safety Department to identify issues that affected both HR and Safety. Worked with Safety Department to identify an effective recognition vendor, as the current safety bonus program was ineffective.

Partnered with the Mechanic Dept. Managers to create a competency-based training program that would permit our level one mechanics to train while on the job. Increased their knowledge, skills and obtain a higher level of certification. As a result, increase in shop work quality and reduction of time spent identifying and hiring.

Manager of Human Resources Oklahoma City, OK January 2004 – July 2014

Capital Distributing- Coors & Miller Distributor - Developed and built the HR Department, as there was not a formal, designated representative previously. I was responsible for the development, revision, and implementation of all policies & procedures.

Provided support for Sales, IT, Delivery, Warehouse and Administration.

Audited FSLA status for current exempt/non-exempt to ensure compliance of current company designations.

Implemented work comp practices to bring consistency and compliance to work accommodation and return to work requirements. Defined best practice for guidelines regarding nepotism.

Developed pre-employment process, which included standardization of allowable background issues for low impact to liability for the company, including liabilities regarding negatives on driving records and criminal issues. Evaluated pay to ensure equity for existing and new employees.

Redesigned the vacation accrual program removing policy practice that penalized employees for joining in the middle of the year.

Reduced the number of years of employment for employees to receive a third week of vacation, which had a positive impact on retention.

oA return-to-work program.

oAccident reporting and investigation procedures, including the use of surveillance cameras. I personally met with every injured employee and manager to discuss improvement on equipment, or practices contributing to the accident.

oDeveloped an after accident retraining program. The employee was required to demonstrate proper procedure and sign off on training completion.

oSafety training conducted during orientation, which included the Smith Driving system, back and hand safety.

oDeveloped and chaired the Safety Committee. I standardized the agenda based on trends and issues identified through current events. Developed a meeting minutes format that identified action items, deadlines for completion and results reporting to the committee.

oEncouraged managers to address safety behavior in the field or on the floor of the warehouse as they were happening. Implemented tailgate meetings with sign off sheets.
