Professional Experience

2023 Jan- Current – Senior Accountant Manager- City of Kansas City, Mo Duties include, but not limited to:

Manages and leads a team of two accountants and a Cash Manager who has her own team of 7 cashiers.

Manages the Appeals for the Court.

Manages Time to Pay (TTP) for the Court and approves employees’ timesheets.

Manages the Cash Bonds for the Court.

May act as a backup for processing daily lockbox exception file and for vault duties.

Approves Accounts Payable invoices, Bond refunds, Restitution payments, Travel advances or any Miscellaneous payments in PeopleSoft system (ERP System) and ensures payments are coded to the correct accounts.

Delegates different duties or projects to the accountants as needed.

Makes sure the Court payments are reconciled daily in the different Case Management systems the court has including online payments.

Makes sure Account Receivable Payments are coded to the correct accounts.

Prepares End Month Journal entries to reconcile the Courts books with the City’s books.

Assists the Senior Analyst (my direct Supervisor) with budget related analysis such as end of quarter budget analysis or budget forecasts.

2022 Mar- December– Financial Accountant- City of Lenexa Duties include, but not limited to:

Reviews daily bank account transactions for items needing to be posted to the general ledger.

Performs monthly/ weekly reconciliations for the City’s accounts including but not limited to the operating, Flex benefits account, Workers Compensation account and many more. Researches all bank reconciliation items and records any necessary transactions in the general ledger.

Prepares Journal entries and reconciles account balances with appropriate records.

Responsible for posting daily cash receipts to the general ledger and ensuring all cash receipts are coded to the correct general ledger account. Post miscellaneous billings to the general ledger and ensure accounts receivable transactions are coded accurately. Assists departments with processing miscellaneous bills including appropriate general ledger coding.

Performs Fixed Assets reconciliation and analytics including depreciation, Asset add-ons and Asset disposals for end year processing, and perform random physical inventory of fixed assets and inventory system.

Assists in the preparation of audit schedules and the Annual Financial Report.

Prepares CIP project spreadsheets and assists with preparation of annual CIP. Maintains capital project budget amounts in the financial system consistent with adopted capital improvement program.

2019Oct- 2022 Feb- Management Analyst-UGWKCK (Finance/ Accounting) Duties include, but not limited to:

Processing and approving system journal transactions and Accounts Payable batches for weekly payments. Approving Accounts Receivable transactions and Direct Deposit account set ups for new vendors.

Conducting Fixed Assets reconciliation and analytics including depreciation, Asset add-ons and Asset disposals for end year processing. Calculating compensated absences for end year close.

Bank reconciliation analysis on the UG operating account on a monthly basis and making sure any reconciliation items are identified and reported correctly or any discrepancies are rectified.

Assisting in the Preparation of the Annual Financial Report (AFR) by conducting financial analysis on financial statements and accounts as directed by the Accounting Manager.

Conducting any financial analysis required by the Accounting Manager using excel (Pivot Analytics) as well as posting Journal/Cash Vouchers in the system (Cayenta) and conducting money count procedures on bond payments in the Sheriff’s Department for proper reconciliation at end month.

2019 Jan- 2019 Oct- Professional Fiscal Assistant (Finance/ Accounting). Duties included, but not limited to:

Conducting Visa Card Analysis reconciliation on all UG departments on a monthly basis and making the payments to the bank (UMB) on a regular and timely basis at the close of every month.

Assisting in conducting bank reconciliation analysis on the UG operating account on a monthly basis and making sure any reconciliation items are identified and reported correctly or any discrepancies are rectified.

Conducting Check-runs on a weekly basis for vendor invoices that are due to be paid and rectifying any Accounts Payable issues that may arise concerning payment of vendors and assisting in creation of vendors and updating their information.

Conducting any financial analysis required by the Accounting Manager using excel (Pivot Analytics) as well as posting Journal/Cash Vouchers in the system (Cayenta).

2016-2018 - Graduate Assistant at Park University (Athletics Department). Duties included, but not limited to:

• Assisted the Athletic Department in generating and analyzing their monthly/ annual reports on actual revenue performance and compared the results with budgeted projections. Assisted in creating Excel Worksheet reports on Athletic Grants and any other Institutional Aid allocated to individual student athletes and adjusted accordingly with their school expenses.

Professional Activities

• Involved in KSGFOA continuous professional education in August 12,13,19 & 20 (2021) and was accredited a certificate of completion (Wichita State University) for 28 hours by the KSGFOA Academy representative.

2016 to 2018 – Graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration (Finance) from Park University.

2008-2011- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting) from University of Nairobi (Kenya).
