Work Experience
Capital Health Home Care, 2016 - Current
Physical Therapist Assistant
Previous experience while working at Ohio Valley Hospital prepared me for the transition to home health care. I developed many pertinent skills vital for home health care. I was empathetic and gentle with my care and treated each patient according to a plan of care to meet pre-determined goals. By developing my skills in many disciplines, it gave me the confidence of my skill set to treat patients in their home setting. I monitor patient’s vitals and take the necessary precautions based on medication use while treating patients in their home setting. Excellent communication with the treating physical therapist is key to providing quality patient care. I focus on educating the patient and their family members regarding diagnosis, injury prevention, and safety awareness. My previous experience in outpatient physical therapy has allowed me to comfortably instruct patients in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches, and prosthetic devices. Per administrator of Capital Health Home Care, I have received numerous excellent reviews from satisfied patients of the agency.
Ohio Valley Hospital, 2010 – 2016
Physical Therapist Assistant
During my initial employment at Ohio Valley Hospital, I remained on the acute rehabilitation unit. I was able to continue with the mentorship with my clinical instructor while I was a SPTA. Effective communication skills were developed with other healthcare professionals to provide continuity of patient care. Participation in every morning briefing on individual patients fostered communication within multiple disciplines. Within the acute care rehabilitation unit, I provided stroke recovery therapy and a variety of post-op orthopedic rehabilitation interventions. Along with the acute rehabilitation unit, I was also able to branch out and apply my clinical skills in the areas of inpatient and outpatient physical therapy. Planning and administering a range of treatments and therapeutic exercise programs along with muscle reeducation, were a few of the duties performed. I gained medical/surgical and ICU experience from my time at Ohio Valley Hospital. I received excellent peer and annual reviews from the Director of Physical Therapy, commending my empathic and thorough qualities as a PTA.
