I currently work at the largest dining facility on campus who feeds roughly 1500 students per meal. Some of my responsibilities include prepping all food items for stations for the following day, batch cooking to maintain quality and freshness for the first and last students to eat. I am responsible for each station i am working at for that day from a wok station where I do many different kinds of stir fry, to a comfort line where I do homestyle cooking, to a grill station where I do omelets to order for our students and have your standard grill food from burgers hotdogs etc. I also train our student helpers on how to maintain and refill the station. I also give basic culinary training to some of our kitchen assistants. Every year Dining Services has a culinary competition with a recipe contest and chopped style competition. I have won several recipe contests and won a chopped style competition. The chopped style competition is where we are a team of three individuals to create 3 tapas out of a mystery basket of 5 obscure food items. Every recipe I have won and have competed with has been original recipes, which gives me the chance to be creative and really showcase my love of food. I am also a union steward at conn.
