From 03/06/2023-11/4/23 via Consilium Staffing as Locums. It's Forensic Psychiatry, a correctional hospital under Texas Tech University. Inmates from all over Texas will come to receive psychiatric or medical care. Workload is per unit and diagnosis. It can be from neurocognitive to acute mental healthcare. One of my units is the Partial remission-psychotic, the goal is to stabilize and most have an incoming diagnosis, if not, I can diagnose. Was responsible of managing an 86 bed unit (I’m was the only provider for that building, so they were all my patients).
I was the first provider in 10 years assigned to that particular building that created a treatment team meeting to be held every day (they hadn’t experienced my type of practice in over 10 years). My treatment team consists of nurses, therapists, and security, it’s imperative for me to get everyone’s input. My treatment team is very grateful that I find their contribution invaluable, because they’ve grown accustomed to providers not caring about how they feel, and basically not having a voice. I’m a firm believer that the entire treatment team should be involved, in order to provide the patient the optimal level of care. When I go to my building to see patients from anywhere between 2-3 hours, and when I’m done, I go back to my office to complete my notes. So, due to only spending a minimal amount of time on my unit, my treatment team are my eyes and ears, because they’re on the unit for 12-16 hours, which in turn enables them to provide a wealth of pertinent information.

Additional Information
I would really like to add my clinical rotation experience. For my clinical
rotation I selected Dr. E. Starbranch, as my preceptor/mentor. Dr. Starbranch
is highly regarded, and has 45 years of experience in psychiatry.
I had the honor of having a preceptor-ship with a psychiatrist that is
incredibly respected by her peers, and well known in the Psychiatric
community. Due to Dr. Starbranch having 45 years or experience in
psychiatry, I gained a wealth of knowledge. I utilize all the
knowledge that I gained, into my practice.
My internship started in January and ended in August 2013. I did 540 hours
rotation, but, due to Dr. Starbanch's heavy patient load, I went over
the required 540 hours.
I went to every hospital that Dr. Starbranch had patients, and that totaled 5
hospitals. She’s was also medical director of two of those hospitals, so I was
privileged to experience her management style.
I gained a wealth of experienced with in-patient, out-patient and private practice.
Gained experience in Telemedicine and partial hospitalization program care.
Dr. Starbranch also had two offices that she saw patients, so, it provided exposure to a multitude of cultures, socioeconomic status, and the underserved.
I had the opportunity to shadow her in all settings, and she always stopped,
to explain why she is going with the particular method of care. She explained the
reason she gave the diagnosis and why she prescribed each medication, for
that specific patient. She told me about how certain drugs, when prescribed
together, react within the body, and to watch prescribing medications that
cause severe adverse reactions, when combined together.
I was also granted access to talk with the pharmaceutical representatives,
about all the preexisting and new drugs on the market. The representatives told
me about the advantages, possible side effects, and feedback received from
providers that implemented that specific medication, in their practice.
That said, I received a well versed education in psychiatry.
That will enable me to practice to the best of my ability, and also provide my
employer with an employee that will do their possible best, at all times. An
employee that is ready to learn, a team player, and willing to collaborate with the health care team, to deliver the best possible care for our clients
