I have to monitor deferred draws on the hospital floors to ensure all patients are drawn in a timely manner. I have been at this facility for a short time however, I handle most of the combative and “UTD” patients. I also have filled in for my supervisor several times and received extra pay to do so because of my experience and knowledge.

Interacting with patients, doctors, nurses, other staff, reference testing facilities so certain patients could be enrolled in medication studies. Preparing bone marrow samples to be sent to over eight reference labs depending on what the doctor wanted from those tests and what the patients condition was. Preforming specimen processing, CBC’s, Potassium levels, obtaining lab requisitions to send samples to reference labs if we did not run those tests in house. Speaking with insurance companies and faxing those companies patients information to able our patients to have authorizations for tests such as BCR/ABL, JAK 2, and genomic tests. Maintaining impeccable records for we did not have EMR. Alerting doctors if any tests were flagged for emergent situations. Attending pharmaceutical dinners/seminars which correlated with blood tests that needed to be preformed for these medications or for different genomic testing. 11/2015-03/2016 Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant for:

The Mariam Hospital outreach laboratory, Bristol, RI.

Serviced patients in pulmonary, primary, and emergency care as well as home draws.

03/2013-01/2014 East Side Clinical Lab, various locations, RI

Operated the lab on Warwick Ave weekly and serviced patients at the Coventry in Saturday’s.

My clinicals and per diem work was performed at South County Hospital, RI and at Garden City Medical in Cranston, RI

06/2001-09/2011 South County Hospital, Narragansett RI

I preformed my internship and stayed with the facility Per Diem in order to learn more about the difficult and multi-pronged skill of drawing blood, processing samples, learn how to interact with patients, and learn more about tests as for their tube needs/ processing requirements/ and what exactly these tests are used for to diagnose a patient and care for them. A important learning process for in trading schools do not teach these important parts of this career. I stayed per diem for I had an autistic toddler and I had to carefully split my time since my ex husband made much more money then I did because he owned multiple businesses. My intent was to continue my education to become a doctorate in funeral science however, having a special needs child and two other children and the challengs of my ex husband owning multiple business allowed me the money however, not the time to do so.

EDUCATION:

I attended phlebotomy technology training at Rome Institute in Belmont, MA in 2001

I attended EMT-B technology classes at Swansea Ambulance taught by Safety Program consultants.

Trainings and accolades:

I am a certified community emergency volunteer with Providence EMA

I have a certificate from Quincy, MA Department of Heath on the recognition of skin issues and infections of the skin

I am BLS CPR and First Aid certified through the American Red Cross

I received my Covid and Flu inoculation 10/19/2023

I was the first employee in Landmark’s laboratory to receive an award and recognition during a full lab staff meeting. The reason why I was the first employee is because a patient spoke to my supervisor about my skill, level of care, and compassion for their situation. The patient was particularly impressed because I effortless took time to listen to them and once the draw was finished the patient felt more positive and cared for at their time of need. This patient happened to be an employee, in which I was unaware of because I was new to their facility.

Body of my work:

As an employer, you cannot be sure what type of professional you are hiring until you have hired. I am wanting to give you a true synopsis of the type of professional you would receive if you hire myself as a CPT.

My current employment is 40 hours, first shift drawing, processing blood, and preparing samples we do not preform in house to go to Labcorp, driving mobily to a rehabilitation hospital which we have a contract with to draw their patients blood with no computer… using paper requisitions and only my knowledge of tests and what tubes I need and their handling instructions and then transporting the samples back to Landmark, drawing blood in our outpatient facility located in the hospital and typing in the paper requisitions and having the knowledge of such tests . I do work early third shift to draw the entire emergency room, I work second shift as a hospital only phlebotomist, and I work first in the hospital and second in the outpatient facility. I on average work 60 hours a week.

In past positions I have covered holidays such as Christmas from 0300 to 2300. I have run all POCT including ESR's, RPR'S, CBC'S, toxicology’s, QC's on machines before technologists arrive, and normal strep, flu, HCG, HIV, DOT drug screens, and mono screens. I have assisted physicians in procedures such as cyst removals and bone marrow biopsies. I have worked outpatient and have taken my lunch break to do home draws. I have worked outpatient to work a double in the facilities emergency visit after office hours, I have worked geriatrics, pediatrics, respiratory, endocrinology, emergency, oncology/hematology, and ever aspect of a hospital.

I have done coding, billing, and acquired prior authorization’s from insurance companies for complex testing such as JAK 2, BCR/ABL, and CALR Retics.

I am asked for by patients, nurses, and physicians to be the phlebotomist sent to draw blood. I am the phlebotomist my director asks for to draw our CEO's and other professional staff when they come to her when they need labs

I have placed IV’S in oncology and hematology patients when they are difficult sticks and need infusions or chemotherapy. I have been asked many times by respiratory therapy to help them find a wrist artery so they can preform ABG's.

I enjoy working hard, I enjoy being in line to preform CPR, I have not missed any of my sticks or anyone else’s misses I had to stick in four months. I take pride in my work ethic and like to keep my brain and body working, I like a strong team that can lean on each other. I like keeping the entire lab as a strong unified staff.
