Centennial Head and Neck Surgery
Roles and responsibilities: Attend and room patients on clinic days. This includes obtaining vital signs, verifying medications, surgical history as well as medical history. Assist with in office procedures such as biopsies, flexible laryngoscopies, JP drain removals, suture and staple removal. I ensure all exam rooms are stocked and order supplies when needed. I am responsible for equipment sterilization, autoclave maintenance as well as operating and maintaining the Olympus OER Elite system.
I maintain and oversee the surgeon’s OR schedule that includes scheduling surgeries in the specified block time, verifying insurance and gaining authorizations from the patient’s insurance company.

Ingram Cosmetic Surgery
Roles and responsibilities: Worked up operative patients prior to their surgery. This included verifying NPO status, consents, post-operative teaching, starting IV and ensuring patency and any other duty that was required. In the operating room, I was responsible for circulating with the RN and also was the main scrub nurse, assistant scrub and or relief. I was in charge of the autoclave maintenance as well as all the surgical instruments to ensure sterility.

Roles and responsibilities: Responsible for the daily operations of a 115 bed Assisted Living and Memory Care facility while ensuring they are being given the utmost quality of care for every resident. Maintaining the facility is compliant with the TN rules and regulations while overseeing 30 plus employees and working within a budget set by the corporate office.

Roles and responsibilities: Responsible for the pre-op of patients from one week prior to surgery and 24 hours before which entailed confirming medical histories with patients and taking corrective action if deemed necessary. The day of surgery also included assessing the patient for appropriateness to proceed with surgery. Pre surgery preparations included medication calculations were within the safety guidelines for the patient. Other responsibilities included ordering of medical supplies and being lead nurse to the other nurses to convey important information needed for Joint Commission or any Elite Policy procedures.

Roles and responsibilities: Ensuring residents are given quality care and needs are met by overseeing all departments and staff. Responsible for all day to day operations of while ensuring compliance with the TN state laws and regulations for assisted living communities while being supportive of the staff and upholding morale. Maintaining contacts and open communication with Nashville and surrounding areas to uphold Bristol Terrace as a positive community in the area.

December 2005 to July 2013 – Licensed Practical Nurse II/ Surgical Technologist - Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Nashville, TN
Roles and responsibilities: Worked in the role of circulating nurse and surgical technologist in the operating room for neonates to the age of eighteen. The circulating role included ensuring all equipment, surgical instruments, medications, room orientation and sufficient staff were in place for the surgical procedure. Also verified the patient’s, chart and paperwork such as surgical consent and all legalities regarding the surgery were in order. The surgical technologist role included choosing the appropriate instruments for the surgery, setting up and maintaining a sterile field before, during and after the surgery until the patient is transported from the operating room to recovery. My specialty areas were ENT, Head and Neck and Urology. I had however scrubbed most surgical aspects in the OR. I was also a member of the liver transplant team while in operation for and scheduled kidney transplants.
While working at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, I had been asked by my managers to attend risk assessment/management meetings. During these meeting I have helped to locate and isolate the cause of specific incidents and then to implement changes to procedures to avoid adverse incidents.
I have also been assigned more than one operating room at one time to oversee during the course of my shift. This role included checking the schedule for each OR room and making sure all the instruments, supplies, sutures and medications were available for that particular surgery. This also included managing the time of each case and communicating with the OR board runner on available open OR rooms to move cases where needed to keep the surgeon and cases on schedule.
September 2001 to September 2004 – Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist

Roles and responsibilities: Performed medical histories on all patients before seeing the physician. This included meticulous attention to detail due to the face the majority of patients were seen were for some form of urological cancer. After seeing the physician, my duties were to draw blood samples according the requisition and then processing the sample for transport to the lab. If any tests such as CT scans, MRIs or any other diagnostic procedures were to be performed, I would schedule the procedure at the appropriate facility and then instruct the patient on the pre-procedure instructions. This was also the case for any surgical procedures that needed to be conducted.
In addition to scheduling the surgeries, I contacted the insurance companies with the necessary medical information to obtain pre-authorization. I was also used to train new employees and to perform checks in the clinic areas for OSHA requirements and any clinic policy discrepancies.
August 2000 to September 2001 – Phlebotomy Instructor

Roles and responsibilities; Instructed a classrooms of approximately 15 to 20 students on phlebotomy and laboratory procedures. This included classroom work as well as clinical situations where I observed their knowledge and technique of the course material learned in the classroom. The facilities and contracts for the student’s clinicals were obtained by me. I evaluated each student and at the end of the course, administered the certification exam to those who passed the course in all other areas.
