Triage nurse and scheduler -- July 2017 through present
Answer phones, take messages, route messages to doctors, outside labs, or providers outside of practice as necessary. Make sure patient is advised if awaiting answers. Review medical notes and call in refills or get approval from physician as necessary. Be aware of and advise patient when they will need prior authorization from insurance provider for procedures. Make sure authorization obtained prior to any tests. Also make sure insurance has no limitations regarding testing or sequence of tests. Be aware of acute emergencies and when patient should report to the Emergency Room or come back to office sooner for a follow-up appointment as dictated by situation. Make necessary appointments, change appointments as requested by either patient or physician. Schedule appointments made by outside referring physician. Relay discrepancies to physician or PA for clarification ASAP. Relay messages from physician to patient in regard to any/all tests with a normal result. Advise patient that physician will contact directly with concerns, needs for additional tests, or for secondary opinions. Make sure all messages, refills, and concerns are responded to in a timely manner. Make sure referring physician and/or primary care physician is notified of all test results.

Input patient demographics, coding for billing purposes, data entry. Worked with multiple cardiologists, physician assistants, nurses, support staff, and patients in high-pace office. Interact with the public and maintain up-to-date records. Obtain information from other physicians’ offices, laboratories, hospitals and patients by phone—excellent phone skills. All records are maintained on computer, and I have very good computer and typing skills. I wrote memos and letters to patients and doctors and mailed them—1st class or expedited as needed.
