Highlights from three industries:

Chemical industry:

Worked with Teams in development of 23 new product applications, plus helped generate over 35 million dollars in profits from new business opportunities within a 3-year period. As the Chemical Plant Manager and Engineering manager, led Team in capital expansion project (new reactors and distillation tower); installed and startup of milling and bagging operation; developed preventative maintenance program; expanded Quality program; and led efforts in an improved safety program that resulted in no lost time accidents over the next 2-year period after having multiple accidents yearly before arrival. Led Team in efficiency process studies that resulted in improved margins of 10-20% in several manufacturing product lines. Served as Continuous Process Improvement Champion and contact for automotive industry. Held positions up to Corporate Technical Director, and Plant Manager. Some of chemical specializations include polymers- coagulants and flocculants, lubricants, silicates and nanoparticles, cleaning and deposition controlling agents, fire retardants, coatings, grease resistance and sizing chemistries, absorbents, defoamers, and performance aids.

Paper, Packaging, and Recycling:

In paper machine area involved in 11 paper machine startups or rebuilds; numerous upgrades and advance technology projects such as control system upgrades; forming table designs; upgraded press designs; calendar and coating upgrades; stock prep and refining upgrades; retention and polymer control innovations. Have developed programs from concepts and trained and developed numerous teams from new operators up through foremen, engineers and superintendents. Skills in both technical areas plus process improvements and human resource development. Led plants in multiple upgrades to make lightweight liner grades with virgin and recycled blends was corporate expert in area.

In continuous improvement area have been a past Corporate Technical Director covering continuous improvement, quality, technical and engineering plus capital projects for all Paper manufacturing (including pulp, woodyard, bleach plant and utilities). This also included corrugation plants and wood converting operations. Have assisted or led the development of process improvement programs in five different companies. (See attached skills sheet for reference of expertise in numerous continuous improvement techniques. This has allowed me to modify programs to match different company programs and their cultures to create a pathway for further advancements.)

Two significant accomplishments in this area include: CEO annual letter to shareholders indicating the development of these programs led to returning to profitability after a negative profit year plus this being the company path forward to build on this progress. The second achievement at another company was utilizing this method in a new plant start up that was merged with an existing plant. The joint merged plants won “plant of the year” by obtaining the seventh-year business goals in 18 months. This has become the center of excellence in plant operations and other plants are sending management teams to learn the practical applications developed and utilized in this cultural transformation that includes safety, training; plus, employee and team development, process and procedures, reliability, continuous improvement, cost takeout, and problem solving.

Additional paper mill experiences include Manager over two recycled recovery facilities. This includes their engineering and start up of the facilities. Department head or assist superintendent or higher for wood yard, pulp mill, bleaching, utilities and recovery areas, plus maintenance, engineering. Considered expert in continuous improvement systems plus paper mill areas such as wet end areas; chemical systems; recycled fiber utilization; coatings and gypsum chemical systems. Managed or participated in numerous projects across mill such as new bleach plant and recovery systems; wood yard upgrades; fiber and raw materials upgrades in recovery and utilities; installation of continuous digester and screening; pulp washer upgrades; control systems for batch digester optimization; deinking systems and new performance chemistries; new coating systems, laminating and plastic coating applications and formulations Also led projects in fluff pulp; environmental upgrades; turbine installation; plastics and other coating applications.

Plastics and Roofing:

In the Plastics and Roofing Industry have led in startup and upgrades of TPO plastic roofing lines which is a laminated extruded product. Have also participated in start up of ISO board operation which is a foam generated board for insulation. Finally was technical support for a roofing rubber extrusion process in Ohio after they had lost several of their technical staffs. Also worked in research and application of advancements in fiberglass mat lines manufacturing process and formulations. Served as a Technical, Quality and field support for both fiberglass mat systems, and (bituminous/ asphalt) shingle systems. Worked on continuous formulation upgrades and plastics recycle use in TPO. Worked with Plant Teams in developing continuous process systems such as KT and 5S. Served as Process Improvement Leader and Problem-Solving Coach. Held positions up to Technical and Research Manager and Plant Production Manager. In addition, 7 years as a Technical and Research manager for PVC, plastics, film and laminating applications in paper and flooring including both formulations and applications.
