Director of Recruitment, Iḷisaġvik College, Barrow, Alaska

I created, coordinated, and implemented student-centered recruitment strategies to increase enrollment and represent the college to prospective students and the general public through presentations, publications, and correspondence. I supervise the College Readiness Coordinator and schedule recruitment travel for the department. I assist prospective students with the admissions/enrollment process and schedule and coordinate recruitment travel on the North Slope and across Alaska. I also organize and represent the college at school and sporting events as well as major community functions on and off campus at institutions across the state. Additionally, I use the professional rapport I have cultivated with high-school counselors and community organizations to strengthen my efforts to effectively introduce prospective students to Ilisagvik College and to increase community goodwill. Finally, I produce a weekly 20-minute radio show to inform North Slope residents about classes, training opportunities, graduations, and other special events at Iḷisaġvik College.

June 2014-March 2017

Employee Training Specialist, North Slope Borough, Barrow, Alaska

I developed, organized, and provided training to all NSB employees on the NSB policies, procedures, ordinances, and regulations. I also assessed training needs through interviews with employers, managers, and other department personnel. Further, I was responsible for training supervisors on the disciplinary process, how to complete a hiring packet, how to handle and eliminate violence, substance abuse, and sexual harassment, and bullying in the workplace. I also provided First Aid/CPR training to NSB employees and the public, traveling as needed to NSB villages to provide training. In addition, I provided this training to unemployed and under-employed residents.

March 2009-June 2014

Recruitment Coordinator, Iḷisaġvik College

I assisted with the development and implementation of Iḷisaġvik College’s student recruitment program and developed a travel schedule to visit all NSB villages and schools outside the district to strengthen recruitment efforts. I worked with the North Slope Borough School District to inform and register new teachers for state-mandated cultural appreciation classes; tracked potential students and encouraged them to enroll at the college. Also, I trained the recruitment specialist, Iḷisaġvik Student Success Center staff, and other college staff using the “best recruiting practices” material I developed for the college. During my second year, student enrollment increased

In addition, I coordinated with the Ilisagvik College Workforce Development program and local employers to recruit prospective students for training and career development. I was also tasked with delivering monthly presentations to the Iḷisaġvik Job Club, conducting college tours for potential students, employers, donors, elected officials, and other visitors as needed. I distributed college information, schedules, and other related material to the public. Further, I hosted a weekly 20-minute radio show on KBRW to provide information to the public about classes and events happening at Iḷisaġvik College.

July 2006-March 2009

News and Public Affairs Director, KBRW, Barrow

I successfully developed, produced, and anchored daily newscasts for the eight villages of the North Slope Borough. I conducted interviews and produced live remote broadcasts. Additional responsibilities included scheduling and anchoring newscasts and other public affairs programs. I frequently contributed news stories to the statewide public radio network. Finally, I assisted with each annual fundraiser and other special events promoting public radio.
