Resident, Foot and Ankle Surgery

Residency surgical experience through the past thirty two months of training include: over 1,000 podiatric and orthopedic surgical cases. In addition, I have completed over 200 rearfoot surgeries consisting of over 60 trauma cases. An additional additional 4 months of residency training remain to expand upon my surgical experience.

Residency experience obtained via on-call consults, inpatient management, and surgical cases at:

Seven hospitals: Mercy Hospital St. Louis (Level I Trauma Center), SSM Health DePaul (Level II Trauma Center), SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – Lake Saint Louis (Level III Trauma Center), SSM Health St. Joseph – Saint Charles, SSM Health St. Mary’s, SSM Health St. Clare, and St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital

Eight surgery centers: Physicians Surgery Center of DePaul, Chesterfield Surgery Center, Des Peres Square Surgery Center, Landmark Surgery Center, Mid Rivers Surgery Center, North Campus Surgery Center, Old Tesson Surgery Center, and St. Peter’s Surgery Center

Four inner-city resident run underserved clinics through Affinia Healthcare. Experienced in Cerner, Epic, NextGen, Athena, and TrakNet electronic medical record systems. Clinical & Surgical Experiences:

Conservative care: trained in non-invasive foot and ankle therapies including: biomechanical evaluations, bracing, casting/splinting, application of compressive dressings, custom functional or accommodative orthotics molding, diagnostic ultrasound, foot & ankle exercises, steroid injections, strapping/ padding.

Forefoot deformities: conservative and surgical management of forefoot deformities including arthritis, gout, hallux valgus, hallux limitus/ rigidus, hammer, claw and mallet toes, interdigital neuromas, metatarsalgia, tailor’s bunionette and tendonitis.

High risk co-morbidity foot and ankle care: comprehensive foot examinations, medical shoe fitting via Brannock device, routine care (toenail, corn and callus debridement), neuropathy treatment, offloading and padding of biomechanically induced deformities.

Limb salvage: work hand in hand with vascular surgery and infectious disease colleagues to aid in lower extremity amputation prevent using toe and flow model. Further experience with external fixation application for Charcot neuroarthropathy and traumatic deformities, plastic and reconstructive surgical care

Minimally invasive surgery: trained in both Wright/Stryker Medical and Arthrex minimally invasive systems to address forefoot (bunion, hammertoe, exostoses) and rearfoot (pes planus, exostoses) deformities.

Orthopedic study interpretation: plain film radiographs, computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear bone scan (Tc99m, WBC labeled) and ultrasound

Plastic surgery techniques: experienced with soft tissue flaps, transposition flaps, allo and auto bone grafting, split thickness skin grafting, allografts, xenografts and biological skin substitutes Apligraf, Dermagraft, EpiFix, GraftJacket, Integra, Kerecis, Organogensis, Primatrix, PuraPly, Stravix and TheraSkin

Reconstruction: adult and pediatric pathologies including chronic ankle instability, brachymetatarsia, congenital pes planus, progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD), charcot neuroarthropathy external fixation and hexapod application, metatarsus adductus, and cavus foot reconstruction, tendinous pathologies, and total ankle replacement (Wright Infinity system)

Soft tissue pathologies: conservative and surgical management of benign tumors and nontumoral lesions: bursas, fibromas, ganglion cysts, hematomas, hemangiomas, inclusion cysts, lipomas and nevi.

Surgical arthroscopy: surgical arthroscopy in the diagnosis and treatment setting of the pathological ankle, trained on ConMed and Arthrex Nanoscope.

Trauma surgery: tendon and ligament rupture repair, forefoot, midfoot and rearfoot fracture repair, compartment syndrome fasciotomy, crush and degloving injuries

Wound care: diagnosis and management of diabetic, neuropathic, pressure, and structural deformity ulcerations. Conservative and surgical treatment ranging from debridement, biological dressings, graft application, complex wound closures, wound vac application and management

(KCI V.A.C., KCI Veraflo, Smith & Nephew PICO and 3M Prevena). Continuing Education Training Courses
