PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Sep 2011 – Present

RN

Baptist Homestead – Homestead

From September of 2011 until present I have worked as a staff nurse and relief charge nurse for 3 South. This is a combined medical/surgical/telemetry/orthopedic unit for acutely ill patients. I was part of the nurse driven research study of Cue-U-turn that later was placed into practice in the unit. During my time here the unit passed TJC inspection with minimal deficiencies. I am currently the UPC chairperson for the unit and I sit on two committees: medication safety and infection control.

Oct 2007 – Present

RN

Westchester Hospital – Miami

I have worked in the Intensive care unit (ICU) at Westchester Hospital serving as both a staff nurse and relief charge nurse for approximately 8 years. As a staff nurse I provide care for 2 to 3 critically ill patients and assess for acute changes in patient status. This includes monitoring patients CVP, swan ganz and arterial catheters as well as the administration and titration of cardiac drips. I also provide nursing care to ventilated patients, monitoring ventilation/perfusion and titrating sedation accordingly. In my role as relief charge I oversee the care of all patients in the unit, ensuring that both the patient and the staff have whatever support they require.

Nov 2008 – Sep 2011

RN

Baptist Doctors Hospital – Coral Gables

From November 2008 until September 2011 I worked both day shift and night shift as a proficient RN in 3 South. This is a combined medical/surgical/telemetry/orthopedic unit for acutely ill patients. This unit specialized in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. I provided nursing care to both pre- and post-op patients, including the management of patient’s with PCA pumps, CPM machines and other orthopedic devices. I was a member of the peer review committee and during my tenure the unit passed TJC inspection with minimal deficiencies.

March 2007 – Feb 2010

RN supervisor

Palmetto Sub-Acute Care Center – Miami

I worked as the nurse supervisor of Palmetto Sub-Acute Care Center for approximately 3 years. I was the direct supervisor for all RNs, LPNs and CNAs, and was responsible for overseeing the care of 96 patients. I was responsible for completing all admissions, transfers and discharges. This required both critical thinking skills and thorough patient assessments in order to provide excellent patient care as well as note any possible acute changes in a patient’s condition. I had to employ both BLS and ACLS algorithms when necessary and functioned as the team leader for all codes. I was an active member of the QI/URL committee, seeking out opportunities for improving patient care.

Aug 1988 – Aug 1993

RN

ISSSTE Hospital in San Luis Potosi Mexico – San Luis Potosi, Mexico

I worked as a staff RN for approximately 5 years. During my nursing practice in Mexico, I worked in all units of the hospital.
