Description: CareFirst is one of the largest Health Care insurers in USA and operates its business among three states MD (Mary Land), DC (District of Columbia) and VA (Northern Virginia). The main aim of IMD application is to provide options for the users of above three states to select the Single party Health Plans and Multiparty Health Plans. Once the user selects and submits the plan, a new work in created in IMD application and it will go for the Medical Underwriting of the E-Health application. As soon as MU in done again work come back to the IMD application, move to different status and assigned to the different users like EAB User, EAB Manager, MU User and MU Manager. The above users will perform respective operations based on the privileges and access assigned to them. Finally work will be register in Facets once it is resolved.

CareFirst Medical Management processes medical authorizations for thousands of services and drugs every month. Authorization is a critical business process which feeds the claims adjudication platforms to release and authorize payments to facilities and providers for medically necessary services while controlling costs. CareFirst’s formulary includes approximately 100+ medications and 1000+ services that require prior authorization. Authorizations for medications are currently a manual process.

The project will provide a platform for medical review of specified complex, high-cost procedures, drugs, treatments, home based services and other specialized programs/services that CareFirst would subject to pre-authorizations. The following are the business objectives of this project.

• To reduce administrative tasks and provide capability that allows hospital users to enter discharge date and other information.

• Provide a more seamless experience for Providers to directly enter and update Authorizations for all Treatment Settings (Facility, Outpatient, Drug, Home-Based Services, etc.)

• Increased integration and use of Authorization data with all the other CareFirst programs to drive successful clinical outcomes and clinical triggers for intervention

• Modernize the systems integration approach to leverage improvements in Member and Provider identification and connectivity to Adjudication systems

For the last 20 years, the bank (and its predecessors, Chase, Manufacturers Hanover, Bank One, First Chicago and Chemical) has been using a mainframe version of a Pegasystems product called PegaWORKS. PegaWORKS provides powerful workflow and integration tools and is highly scalable but is now a dated technology. It lacks a browser-based user interface and many of the modern attributes associated with typical web-based systems of today. This project is intended to deploy the latest software available from Pegasystems to manage and process investigations as well as provide a BPM environment that can be used for other process automation needs in the future.

In the short term, SI will coexist with the existing mainframe solution. Some investigators will use SI and the others will use PegaWORKS. Over time, a transition will occur so that a decreasing number of users are using PegaWORKS and an increasing number of users are using SI.
