Re: Chaplain Position
In response to your job posting for a Chaplain,I am including my resume and this letter for your review.
I have been working with Jesus’ Disciples Christian Church as a Pastor. My main duty is to provide a deeper understanding of the Christian faith through preaching and discipleship. I understand that the Chaplain position at the Maplehurst Correctional Services may have a broader scope where I would need to meet the religious needs of various men from different religious backgrounds. I have first hand experience on how rewarding it can be to learn different religious beliefs.
Through experience and observations, I understand that spiritual belief plays a profound role in shaping a person’s behaviour. Our self perception is always influenced by our beliefs. For instance, if we believe we are inherently good or divine beings, we may act with kindness and compassion toward ourselves and others. Our spiritual beliefs guide our interactions with others and our worldview is shaped by our beliefs. Our values, morals and ethics are all closely tied to our spiritual beliefs. A good understanding of inmates' spiritual beliefs can be a good marker for behaviour change that can be made.
Although of Christian faith, I have experience and in-depth knowledge of various spiritual beliefs of families that I worked with as a Social Worker at Children’s Aid Society of Toronto for the past 24 years. I am responsible for the overall religious needs and ensure that they have full understanding and are growing in their faith. I have familiarized myself about the correctional services having visited both the Maplehurst and Vanier Complex on several occasions while conducting professional visits.
The following are my qualifications
23 years of pastoral ministry
24 years of handling high conflict cases related to mental health, addictions and domestic violence
Masters of Divinity
Bachelor of Social Work
24 years experience in casework
Able to manage to occasional vicarious trauma stress
Able to handle high conflict situations and apply problem solving skills
Knowledge of the shelter system
Strong case management skills and service coordination abilities
Microsoft Office Knowledge
Supervision of BSW and MSW students during field placement.
Extensive training in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion.
Thank you for taking the time to read my resume and cover letter.
Sincerely,
Rowena Morin
