Work Experience

8/2021-1/2022 Evaluator, Observer Student Teaching

I observed and evaluated student teachers in the elementary education program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.

10/14-7/21 Tour Guide/Wine Server

I was hired to educate my colleagues in giving a more expansive tour of the San Antonio Winery, a historic winery in Los Angeles, California, emphasizing the history of winemaking in California, generally, and in the Los Angeles area, specifically. When not educating, I would give winery tours and conduct wine tastings to a wide-ranging public, often using my foreign language skills.

6/12-8/14 Tour Support, Warner Bros. Studio Tour

I assisted the Warner Bros. studio tour guides in “warming up” the audiences in the introductory part of the tour, provided emergency assistance to guides, and I gave customized tours in Spanish to guests.

4/93-2/12 Elementary Educator, Substitute

I taught pre-K to 6th Grade at various elementary schools in northeastern Los Angeles. I participated in school/community events as schools that I frequently taught at. Whenever I engaged in long-term teaching assignments at a school, I would become involved in grade-level and school-wide event planning. I engaged in substitute teaching during my doctoral work.

4/86-12/92 Elementary Educator, Full-Time

I taught Grades 1, 2, 4, and 5 at Alexandria Avenue Elementary School in central Los Angeles, California. I engaged in dual-language teaching and conducting my class, whenever possible, as a laboratory for students to practice their skills and learn on their own. I was one of the charter members of the schools school-based management council, setting policy, curriculum implementation, and teacher-parent community building. I, often, taught seminars on some of the latest language teaching techniques to my colleagues. I left full-time teaching to pursue doctoral studies.
