● Care of sick and premature newborns based on individual needs, although common treatments include:

-Temperature-controlled beds

● Monitoring of temperature, blood pressure, heart and breathing rates, and oxygen levels.

● Administration of oxygen n by mask, mechanical ventilator, ncpap, nasal cannula, or oxyhood.

● Intravenous fluids for NPO status or for medications, and hyperalimentation/intralipid therapy.

● Insertion of umbilical arterial and venous lines for the infusion of fluids and medications and to draw blood.

● Special feedings (gavage) of Breast milk or formula

● Medications and other treatments for complications, such as antibiotics.

● Insertion of intravenous catheters and care of sites.

● Lab/blood draws via venipunctures, arterial sticks and heelsticks.

● Interpretation of laboratory results, such as blood gases, and chemistry tests.

● Assisting with medical procedures such as endotracheal intubations, lumbar punctures, chest tube insertions, and septic work-ups.
