Aug 2016- Present USD 483: Southwestern Heights High School Kismet, KS
English Language Arts Teacher (10th grade) and 9th Grade Communications/Speech Teacher
●Teaching Responsibilities: Providing all students with equal opportunities to learn and grow as individuals and productive members of society. Most days include the following responsibilities- lesson plans, grades, physical and emotional wellbeing, learning/ improvement of all students throughout the course of the school year, classroom management, multitasking, and planning ahead.
●Note: there are many more responsibilities than those listed above and the summary/list could go on, but I believe you get the gist. :)
Skills
●Speaking and Listening: Communication is a must in any career and I have plenty of experience because I worked in a customer service industry and I currently teach students at the high school level.
●Classroom Management: This includes room setup, keeping students on task, making sure that students get work accomplished that was planned for the class period, and seating chart arrangements to make sure that students have an opportunity to teach each other/learn from someone they are sitting next to.
●Multitasking: As a teacher and a first-time mom of a 4-month-old, it is vital to be able to complete grading and lesson plans before I head home for the day to spend time with my husband and son. I am great at this because I have had plenty of practice.
●Planning: As I said in the previous section, planning ahead is a strong-suit for me because I need to make sure I have everything ready for the next day before I go home. I have most lesson plans completed weeks before and am very flexible if things don’t go according to plan. I also usually have back up plans just in case things change or lessons don’t go as foreseen.
●As stated above, under the Teacher section, the list could go on, but I am sure you understand.
