INFORMATION
I enjoy working in NICU, I feel it is a very rewarding area of nursing. I have been blessed to see many of my former patients grow into healthy young children and adults. I enjoy interacting with the parents of the NICU patients. I feel it is a very stressful time when parents have a baby in the NICU, and I pride myself in working to make the parents comfortable and safe in our unit. My main approach is to remind the parents that the infant in our care is their baby, we are there to care for the infant medically, feed, nourish, provide medications etc., but the baby belongs to the parents. They will take the baby home and I work hard to be sure they are comfortable doing that.
I have received many cards and letters thanking me for the care I have provided. I have been nominated for the Daisy Award several times, and I was very blessed to be the recipient of the Daisy Award a few years ago. I cherish this award, though no money is involved, the meaning behind the award and the fact that a family thought enough to nominate me means a great deal to me
