After the Boston bombing, Homeland Security was looking to hire retired law enforcement officers to join their team. I started several months of training, after an extensive background check, guided by the Federal Protective Services. I insure the public’s and government employees’ safety at Federal Court Houses, Social Security Offices, Immigration Offices, Internal Revenue Service offices and other Federal Government Buildings. My years as a law enforcement officer helps me be proactive while dealing with the public and any threats against the Federal government and its employees. My duties included all phases of police work. Enforcing the motor vehicle laws as well as the criminal laws in the state of New Jersey. Initial response to complaints and criminal activity and preparation of reports for all incidents. I also had a first-grade reading class. This program that I volunteered for was a police officer would go to a pre-determined class and read a story to the class and have a discussion. Depending on the time of year, I would give safety lessons for Halloween, or pool safety in the summer. I was lucky to be surrounded by a department that had great men and women that stood for integrity. 2
