September 2001 to March 2002 London, U.K.

Band X brokers international bandwidth for wholesale ISP’s vendors globally.

Human Resource Manager: Level 3 Communications (Telco)

December 1998 to July 2001 London, UK

Level 3 Communications owns and operates about 1/3 of the world’s internet infrastructure, including international and undersea cables. The London office managed the UK, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

As European Recruitment Manager and sole resource, I grew the company from 300 to 1,600 staff across five countries in less than a year. With only two other HR staff, we provided a full HR service, including creating policies and procedures for Europe for 18 months. I also established the Training & OD functions and managed the Netherlands HR office.

I then managed the redundancy programme which retrenched 80% of the European staff over three months.

Development Consultant: (contract) London Transport

London Transport operates the tube trains and buses in London. They never retrench staff for fear of strikes, so surplus staff were transferred to a displacement unit until they found alternative work. When I joined, some staff had been displaced for 3 years or more.

My role was to train & develop the 100+ displaced staff to help them to find alternative employment. We were hired after many other initiatives had failed to move long-term displaced staff. Most of the training was developed from scratch to meet the particular needs of the displaced staff.
