Duties and Responsibilities: My responsibilities included ensuring the day to day operations of a public school with at-risk students were fulfilled with high expectations. Also, I ensured these students were getting a quality education to prepare them for the real world. My mission was to ensure all constituents and stakeholders in the schools as well as the communities were working together, and consistency was being sustained. This benefits everyone to understand the goals and objectives of the school district and facilitated the preservation of an effective environment. All emphases of the school were geared toward safety, student achievement, and professional development. In this age of accountability, it is more and more important for students to understand that learning is their occupation and that they need to do whatever it takes to keep them engaged. It then became my duty to ensure students were getting the most out of their educational experience. While serving as the GEAR UP! / Graduation Coach, my duties included overseeing the day to day operation of the GEAR UP Program at West Gadsden High School. I coordinated all GEAR UP! and graduation activities as well as services to complement the existing student services system to provide a strong student support service. Working with the administrative team and faculty, all students had access to rigorous coursework and student support necessary to transition into postsecondary education and training. While serving as the liaison between the Gadsden County School District and the Florida Department of Education, program collaboration was aligned with program goals to ensure implementation of the GEAR UP! Program with fidelity. Through daily contact with district leadership team, we ensured data analysis and reporting were essential to show the impact of the funding for selected schools of the Gadsden County School District and to determine if program deliverables were being met. With constantly collaboration with all stakeholders, parent involvement and awareness of college requirements were a project deliverable to ensure continued funding of the project. My own knowledge was enhanced with periodic research which allowed me to provide feedback and suggestions about the implementation of evidence-based strategies that would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the project staff to implement required services of the project with fidelity. My primary mission was to prepare students to become productive citizens in a realistic environment by overcoming their physical and mental handicaps. I acted as a role model/mentor to students and provide them with facts of life as well as showing them the proper way to survive in the real world. While serving as a teacher, daily documentation and administration of educational knowledge in the field of mathematics, science and technology were provided to students. While at Havana Middle, Shanks Middle, East and West Gadsden High School while serving as the Assistant Principal for Discipline, my responsibility was to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. This position led me to become an “Expert in the Field” for student discipline within the Gadsden County School District. Also, I participated in extra-curriculum activities as the Head Basketball, Football and Boys Track Coach.
Reason for Leaving: A new Superintendent of Schools was elected and decided to “go into a new direction” with an entirely new administrative staff at every school within the district.
