Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and the Mental Health Unit Chief in their assigned facility on Rikers Island, the Mental Health Clinician will provide quality mental health care to incarcerated adult men who need and/or want services
• Conducts mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, assessments, and follow-up care.
• Determines and coordinates disposition of patients for the appropriate level of mental health care
• Coordinates with Reentry Social Workers for appropriate discharge planning services Completes required statistical reports.
• Collaborates with the Department of Correction to ensure access to patients, proper housing, and treatment disposition.
• Coordinates patient care with other institutional programs.
• Develops and leads group treatment on mental health observation units and other units as assigned.
• Completes all required documentation.
• Participates in clinical supervision with Clinical Supervisor at least once a week.
• Participates in mental health and medical rounds as assigned.
• Participates in case conferences and treatment planning for patients receiving and being considered for mental health treatment.
• May conduct psychological testing as assigned.
• May supervise social work interns or student volunteers as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Unit Chief, Assistant Unit Chief, and Clinical Supervisor.

Developed and implemented the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration) grant -related activities, including coordination of the day to day project operation
•Responsible for the clinical aspects of patient treatment and supervising the unit supervisors and staff.
•Responsible for providing or making provision for ongoing staff training including the dynamics of supervision in regard to patient and counseling staff on the use, management of data for the clinical record.
•Assists counseling staff in the development of appropriate treatment plans and Psychosocial.
•Collect monthly data from counselors and supervisors for the end of the month for program statistical reports.
•Assists supervisors and medical staff, attending regularly scheduled treatment team conferences of Interdisciplinary Cases as part of the team.
•Provide supervision to counseling staff; meet with counselors weekly to provide instruction on proper record keeping, confidentiality guidelines, and referral. Meet with counselors and clients to discuss problematic cases and provide crisis intervention upon demand; provide resources that will benefit the staff professional development. Help clients with housing.
Anger/ Substance Abuse Specialist
•Recruiting clients from other programs affiliated with the agency.
•Individual sessions within dealing with issues with school, family, relationship, crisis, and drug-related issues.
•Investigated sex abuse and child abuse cases reported by the State Central Registry.
•Responsible for co-facilitating relapse prevention support groups.
•Responsible for the overall planning and coordinating of all substance abuse prevention services.
•Continuously implemented and monitored treatment plans, professionals’ decisions, and recommendations that have a pronounced effect on the life of assigned cases involving both individuals and families and in social and criminal justice settings.
•Evaluated, and determined the appropriateness of reports and correspondence relative to the rules and maintain a strong working relationship with the social service staff to ensure the quality of care and best practice.
