Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. Responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and all Ancillary Departments. This includes working in conjunction with the OR staff to provide timely sterile products, trays and case carts where applicable. maintains consistency and continuous workflow between the OR and Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service. The Processing Tech III must demonstrate advanced knowledge of sterilization techniques, surgical instruments, and an in-depth understanding of how the Sterile Processing Department`s relationship with other departments within the hospital. Adjust all scheduling call outs. Departmental budget development. Project management and procedure development.

DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Decontamination:

1.Follows Universal Precautions by wearing the appropriate protective attire while working in the Decontamination area.

Decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment as needed by keeping a continuous flow of equipment moving through the process.

Utilizes appropriate cleaning detergents and agents by reading directions and MSDS sheets. Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly.

2. Assembles surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings. Wraps or pouches items according to size and type of instrument or equipment.

3.Sterilization: Challenges the sterilization process by using internal, external and biological monitoring systems appropriately. Monitors, reads, document, and interpret all parameters for all types of sterilizers to insure proper function. (Steam 21 years using Steam), Eto(10 years’ experience with ETO) & (21 years’ experience using Sterrad).Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and procedures upon request.

4. Process or produce sterile items in comparison to others. Distribution/Case Carts if applicable. Distributes all sterile and non-sterile supplies and medical equipment upon request or case cart requisition.

5.Orders and puts away supplies & linens upon request, as needed. Picks surgical case carts by following established Surgeons Preference Cards or Procedural Pick list / requisition.

6.Other essential department responsibilities: Assumes seniority charge responsibility in absence or shortages. Identifies and resolves issues and keeps manager informed.

7.Problem-solve and troubleshoot when problems arise with Staffing, instruments or machines including crisis intervention. Call staff in for scheduling shortages. Resume and absorb and all staff discrepancies. Maintains appropriate records such as logs, sterilization records and count sheets. Understands and utilizes computers for generating data and requisitioning goods through Alex.

8.Departmental hiring committee for new hires, annual competency reviews, departmental HR evaluations reporting, verbal and written counseling assessments and documentation

9.Maintains system and department competencies conduct department meetings, in-services, and annual budgetary presentations and updates

10.Prepare departmental budgets for upcoming quarter, and annual management review

11. Demonstrates and develop departmental team building protocols to enhance the components of I CORE values and mission statement compliance to meet organizational goals.

12.Develop team training modules for existing staff and new hires in-servicing.

13.Procedure development to meet and maintain all certifying agency requirements OSHA, Joint commission, infection control, ISCHM, etc.
