Created and taught “The Strategic CFO” at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business and the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business. The course offers real life experience and a high level of academic problems.

Established Georgia Atlas, a medical cannabis company during the 2020 and 2021 Covid pandemic. Served as CFO and led the effort to submit a several-hundred-page business plan and license application with the state of Georgia, finishing in the top eight of 70 entries.

Helped lead significant change management efforts and implementation of its enterprise resource programs (ERP) at Power Secure, a recently acquired operating subsidiary of Southern Company. While serving as Interim CFO, the company implemented its business plan, completed the ERP, and accomplished its business goals.

Served as Interim CEO of Bahamas Power and Light for Southern Company while negotiating the dissolution of a management agreement with the Bahamian government. Also, served as Interim CFO for several months.

Served as CFO of the largest subsidiary, Georgia Power Company, and the two biggest operating units, Generation and Transmission.

Led significant change management and cost reduction efforts. In 2008, helped lead a taskforce that reduced Southern Company’s operating costs by $300 million.

Directed implementation of enterprise resource program (ERP), standardizing practices and procedures across all Southern Company entities.

Successfully shuttered Energy Solutions business.

Consolidated and standardized Generation and Transmission business units.

Establish framework for Sarbanes–Oxley to ensure effective and efficient compliance with requirements.

Worked with the FASB to write an amendment to recognize appropriate derivative accounting for foreign exchange conversions and to accept regulatory accounting for phase-in of nuclear power plant cost.

Advised China Grid Corporation on international acquisitions.

Refinanced Southern Company long-term debt, saving millions of dollars.

Served as an interim member of the Atlanta Public Schools management team and consulted with two superintendents during the rebuild of systems, processes and culture following the revelation of a huge cheating scandal.
