COMMUNICATIONS, OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, SUPERVISION, CONFLICT MANAGEMENT, SITUATIONS REQUIRING SPECIAL HANDLING, PRESENTATIONS, TRAINING Transportation Security Administration – Los Angeles International Airport 10/2002- 3/2007 Human Resources 310-***-**** 5767 W. Century Blvd. Los Angeles, Ca. 90045 Supervisory Transportation Security Officer – SV 1802 G-Band (GS 10,11 equiv.) Supervisor: Raul Matute (no longer employed there), Forrest Kirk (no longer employed there). I supervised the operation of a remarkably busy passenger screening checkpoint at Los Angeles Int'l Airport (LAX) and the officers serving there. I was charged with upholding and enforcing the laws governing passengers and baggage that will board commercial aircraft in the U.S. as set forth in our Standard Operating Procedures which follow the Congressional Act which established our agency after 9/11. I was directly responsible for the quality of screening, efficiency of the operation and the professionalism encountered there. This requires an expert knowledge of the policy and the parameters involved coupled with the ability to communicate with sensitivity. I was called upon to interpret, communicate and enforce policies, assist passengers with compliance in complicated or special screening situations, handle disgruntled passengers, initiate and participate in further law enforcement activity as necessary, act as liaison to law enforcement agencies performing their functions in, around, or through our checkpoint and act as immediate contact for airlines and other stakeholder entities needing assistance or special accommodation.

I met with weapons, explosives, and all manner of contraband. Threats involving explosives require rapid and accurate decision making, that the danger might be mitigated without loss to person or property. I also verified credentials and personal identification for law enforcement and agency officials and others. Frequently, screening would lead to the discovery of items that necessitated further investigation. I would detain the individuals, interview them, recording all relevant information and relaying it to jurisdictional law enforcement officers for further steps such as background check and arrest.

As supervisor, it was my privilege to impact the quality of screening performed in my checkpoint. I prepared and presented daily briefings to officers under my direct report. I was charged with training and encouraging all employees to take responsibility for individual assignments, and vigilantly perform duties. I led by example and expected all employees under my supervision to demonstrate the highest levels of courtesy to travelers, members of the public, and others . Another important aspect of my responsibility was to provide a working environment characterized by mutual respect as well as fair, consistent and nondiscriminatory treatment. I supervised a diverse group of officers using collaborative problem solving to enhance team cohesiveness. I mentored, coached, and prepared officers for promotional opportunities, and collateral duties. I addressed Attendance and Leave, injuries, Safety, and Human Resource issues including behavior/discipline.
