I worked in Same Day Surgery. I take care & prepare patients before surgery. I do initial assessment of the patient. I carry-out MD's pre-op orders. I collect specimen when indicated. I start IV infusion. I check the blood sugar level if patient is diabetic. After surgery, I receive the patient from PACU & I monitor the patient's vital signs & check if the patient is in pain. I carry-out the MD's post-op orders. I discharge the patient if he/she meets the discharge criteria & give discharge instructions accordingly. If patient does not meet criteria, I notify the MD & give him an update of the patient's condition to see if he/she needs to be admitted for 23 hour observation on the surgical floor. I work in Same Day Surgery. I get patients ready for surgery. I start IV infusion, draw blood for lab work-up, do EKG & request chest X-Ray if needed prior to surgery. I talk to patient & answer their questions to allay anxiety. I receive the patient back from PACU & monitor their vital signs & pain level. I administer post-op pain medication prn as ordered. I give the patient juice & snack as tolerated. If patient meets the discharge criteria, I give discharge instructions to patient & family and give them the printed material as well to take home to reinforce the teaching that was given to them. I take the patient out in a wheelchair to the car at discharge. RN
