Medical Technician - SAMMC (formerly BAMC Ft. Sam Houston, TX) Reference Chemistry Nov. 2001-Nov. 2012

Duties included were serving as floor supervisor/senior trainer in the automated section of Reference Chemistry. I trained all personnel in the operation and maintenance of the Roche modular systems. Testing was done on a P-P/P-E and E-170 configuration. Assays included HgbA1C, G6PDH, cancer antigens, tumor markers, as well as Vitamin B12/Folic Acid, hormones and chemistry/immunology analytes in serum and urine. Additional duties included specimen processing, pipettte calibration, and preparation of reagents and standards as required. Performed CAP surveys and monitored quality control for acceptability. In addition, the Roche standing order was reconfigured… resulting in increased cost effectiveness and elimination of reagent waste and stockpiling.

Medical Technologist – TexSan Heart Hospital San Antonio, TX Oct. 2008-Jan. 2011

Primary duties were as the weekend technologist performing all laboratory disciplines to include phlebotomy with a special emphasis on blood banking. Instrumentation included Beckman-Coulter for hematology and Immunolgy and Dade Dimension for Chemistry. Also plated microbiology specimens and packed specimens to ship to other facilities. Additional duties included maintaining inventory and coordinating with South Texas Blood and Tissue Center as demands for units required. Most testing was performed during non-peak shifts, so almost all procedures required the ability to work unsupervised.
