I was responsible for determining if organizations that are applying for tax-exempt status meet the requirements for the classification that they are applying for based on the tax law, their activities and financial information. I reviewed an organization’s application; additional information that might be needed in order to determine if the organization meet the criteria necessary to be tax exempt; interprets the Code, regulations, revenue rulings, court cases and facts to decide the issues involved and arrive at a proper determination; gain an understanding of the customer’s accounting practices and bookkeeping systems to determine if allowable tax accounting principles are being used to recognize income and to deduct expenses; recognize indicators of fraud; determines whether the organization’s purposes, as stated in the organizing document are within the scope of the code section under which exemption was claimed. I have worked with exempt organizations in maintaining their financial records by preparing their financial statements and I performed audits of exempt organizations records and made recommendations to improve their financial position and procedures. Customer service to tax clients though letters and phone calls. Accounting, Budgeting and determining if an organization meant any of the exemption tax laws and tax code.
