Data Engineer / Project Manager – Fugro USA Land Inc., Newport Beach, CA

- Developed a Python application to calculate a composite index known as Pavement Condition Index consisting of over 120 different variables, involving complex logic.

- Created performance dashboards for clients using Power BI, Jasper Server, and AGOL, enabling clients to gain insights into their massive road distress data.

- Developed Python scripts to streamline conversion of standard distress delivery spreadsheets into XML and JSON formats, for importation into management system software. 2021-2023

- Created a pipeline in Python to automatically collect certain shapefiles from a server location, then create a master shapefile, joining with collection data which is gathered using API from Salesforce.

- Developed interactive Esri dashboard showing all data collection activities by Fugro with daily updates

(over 300,000 centerline miles surveyed annually). The solution was created by analyzing data resided in Salesforce, collected through API and sent to Esri Online through API.

- Developed cartographic scripts with Arcpy in ArcGIS Pro to automate creation of maps with consideration of panning, scaling, title and comment adjustments, when consistent maps are needed for many sites to be created in a short amount of time, programmatically.

- Developed Python scripts to convert over 20 years of historical GIS data (i.e., 150 million data points) between different LRS systems for Manitoba Infrastructure.

- Managed asset/pavement management projects for the listed cities using software platforms such as AgileAssets and PAVER.

- Conceptualized, planned, and executed the automated data collection for New Mexico Aviation project for 48 airports. Project duration 4 years and fee $2 million.

- Led the pavement group in all technical aspects to implement a new pavement management system in AgileAssets for the province of Manitoba, Canada. Project duration 9 months and fee $1 million.

- Trained Manitoba staff on AgileAssets in weeklong training sessions.

- Developed bespoke software manual for Manitoba Infrastructure.

- Developed pavement performance models for Alaska Department of Transportation using 20 years of historical data and updated the maintenance decision tree and performance models in AgileAssets system.

- Helped other staff in preparing/editing/improving proposals. Project Engineer – Nichols Consulting Engineers (NCE), Fountain Valley, CA

- Supported Pavement Management Programs (PMP) across southern California for the County of San Diego, Orange and several cities.

- Prepared Pavement management programs using StreetSaver & Paver programs.

- Performed field reviews for quality control of walking, windshield and automated inspections.

- Conducted pavement walking inspections per ASTM D6433 (OCTA certified inspector).

- Conducted pavement designs for cities of Stanton, San Marino, Redondo Beach.

- Performed analyses to resolve linkage issues between the street inventory and shape file.

- Produced PCI and PMP related maps in Esri ArcGIS Pro and AutoCAD software.

- Connected through API to import and upload data, as it can be a future trend in PMP works.

- Gathered and analyzed asset data such as imagery through services such as Mapillary API. 2020-2021

Research & Teaching Assistant – National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University, Auburn, AL

- Supported the national pavement preservation pooled fund study TPF-5(375) as a principal data analyst. Developed much needed performance curves for innovative preventive treatments.

- Experienced pavement inspector. Performed data-driven pavement forensic studies applied on NCAT’s preservation sites located on a low-volume road, Lee Road 159, and a high-volume road, US-280.

- Utilized advanced automation techniques to improve work efficiency where sizable repetitive tasks are needed to be handled on a regular basis; as a case in point, automation of crack mapping which is implementable in a hassle-free overnight operation.

- Supported “Civil Engineering Materials” undergraduate course and “Design and Production of Asphalt Paving Mixtures” graduate course for seven consecutive semesters.

- Provided laboratory report writing tutorials and guideline with special emphasis on enhancing students’ writing skills leading to high quality written reports. Provided ample feedback on reports to pave the way for students’ future career success.

- Dissertation Research Project

2017-2019

- National Partnership to Determine the Life Extending Benefit Curves of Pavement Preservation Techniques, Pooled Fund Study TPF-5(375), MnROAD/NCAT Joint Study. Role: Principal Data Analyst Principle Investigator: Adriana Vargas Funding: $4.8 million Sponsorship: DOTs: AL, AR, CO, GA, IL, KS, KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NY, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, WI, and WV; and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Foundation for Pavement Preservation (FP2). Civil Engineer – SBR INTERNATIONAL EPC COMPANY, Sheikh Bahaee Science & Technology Park, Isfahan, Iran

- Assisted in land development, access road and drainage design for a national-scale industrial plant, resulted in successful design and construction of the project for the largest iron ore production facility in Iran (Gol-E-Gohar) (Google Maps link).
