My work involved coordinating and developing filing systems, dissemination of information, and coordinating administrative support work. Position: Equipment Clerk

General clerical duties included payroll preparation, typing and filing. I developed forms, spreadsheets, programs, and procedures to provide for a safe and efficient work environment. Assisting the General Foreman was done daily in report preparation, fact finding, and decision making. I also performed accident investigation, report preparation, and required filing in coordination with the General Foremen and company Safety Officer.

I was required to prepare work schedules, post, and file them. Record keeping was very important as the company would continually audit all records.

My duties included maintaining the equipment room for safety and maintenance tools, new employee orientation in safety and OSHA standards used within the chemical plant, as well as testing in these areas. I also had a major role in preparing, conducting, and recording the monthly safety meetings for our 200 plus employees. On a daily basis I would coordinate safety activities and meetings with Corporate Safety Officer.

In the safety room I maintained the inventory, working condition and calibration of needed safety equipment. I routinely repaired equipment, tested, and calibrated it for field conditions. I also instructed employees in the proper uses of the safety equipment. In repair of equipment and calibration I was required to use a variety of analog and digital instruments. Also used were specialized calibration instruments and gases when repairing the calibration of various meters and equipment.

In the tool room, I maintained an adequate stock of tools and specialty equipment to perform the tasks required. All tools and equipment had to be safety checked routinely and records kept on each piece. The records would be audited by U.S. Contractors, Inc. and BASF Safety Officers regularly. I received training in safety, computers, personnel management and sexual harassment.

On August 12 - 14, 1991, I attended my first Professional Development Conference in Austin hosted by the American Society of Safety Engineers Region III, Texas Safety Association, and Public Employee Section. Classes ranged from workplace safety inspections, practices, and procedures to current and proposed laws. This is the first of several of this type conference that I have attended.
