Paramedic with 13 years experience, with a total of 18 years emergency medical background. I’m very good with critical thinking and working as a team. I’m also very good at working independently and very thorough with documentation of important details and facts. I’ve worked inside an emergency department, as well as a busy ambulance, and fire service in a large city. I also have experience teaching advanced level medical courses for Yale New Haven, which included teaching EMT programs, paramedic programs, and UNH student programs. My years of work in the community have given me excellent communication skills when dealing with the public, other medical personal, and hospital staff. My experience has honed my multi-tasking abilities to allow me to prioritize critical information and treat lifesaving problems rapidly with a high level of accountability. Throughout all my years of service as a paramedic, my patient care was never questioned for its quality and often commended for my performance and care and compassion for my patients.

Experience

OCTOBER 2016 – JANUARY 2024

Fire Fighter/Paramedic – City of New Haven – New Haven, CT

Responsible for checking fire gear and air pack. Daily reviews of medication and advanced life support equipment, cardiac monitor, and checking out my controlled substance medications. I respond to medical calls in a large city with a fast-paced environment and a population of 130,000-160,000, with a call volume of about 8,000 per year for my ambulance. I’m also responsible for maintaining the safety of our vehicle as well as the safety of personnel or patients on scenes of medical calls or traumatic incidents, with experience in mass casualty triage and resource management. As a paramedic for the city, I’m in charge of all aspects of patient care and act as an extension of the emergency room doctors, with medical control authority, to operate independently when treating patients on scene or during transport and inside the ambulance. I’m also responsible for responding to fires and working in a firefighter capacity but switch roles as needed. I’m responsible for logging all calls that I respond to for the fire department, as well as documenting thoroughly all interactions and patient care that is provided to my patients in a timely manner. We carry more than 20+ medications, as well as having the ability to place advanced breathing tubes, perform cricothyrotomies, read, interpret, and treat all cardiac problems with medication or electrical cardioversion, etc. I’m responsible for relaying critical information via radio or phone transmission as well as giving direct reports to hospital staff. I’m responsible for recognizing and treating strokes, and for recognizing someone having a myocardial infarction (heart attack) and activating the appropriate resources before arriving at the hospital. All my patient care is overseen by Yale New Haven hospital physicians for QI/QA.

AUGUST 2007 – SEPTEMBER 2019

Paramedic – American Medical Response – New Haven, CT

My roles and responsibilities were checking out my ambulance, and my basic life support and advanced life support gear at the beginning of shifts. This included signing out of my controlled substance medications in a timely manner. I was trained to drive and operate the ambulance as well as independently treat and transport all emergencies. Being the higher level of care on the ambulance, I was primarily responsible for the patient. Our coverage area ranged throughout New Haven County. It included New Haven, West Haven, Orange, Milford, Woodbridge, Hamden, East Haven, North Haven, and sometimes mutual aid into Bethany. Average shift was about 1 call an hour with emergency and non-emergency transports, critical transports, organ donor trips and sometimes lift assistance calls. I was responsible for radio communication and resource activation within the hospital for patients with strokes, traumatic injury patients, or myocardial infarctions (heart attack). I was subject to fast turnarounds and thorough documentation that was overseen by Yale Hospital physicians.
