● Executive over all academic and performance studies programs at one of the largest music conservatories in Latin America. The Conservatory was established in 1959 and operates as a publicly-funded corporation with its own Board of Directors. I report directly to the Chancellor of the Conservatory and present quarterly to the Board of Directors.

● Develop academic affairs office with revamped assessments of student learning, and course development and evaluation as part of the Institutional and Student Learning Assessment Plan started in 2008.

● Supervise financial planning –academic deanship- and monitor use of, the conservatory’s approximately $11.4 million annual budget.

● Create community outreach and collaborative arts programs including children’s music programs, monthly and Holiday community concerts, and international exchange programs with Venezuela, Perú, Colombia, and the United States of America schools of music, and conservatories.

● Oversee review process and ensure successful compliance of institutional accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Music, The Middle States Council for Higher Education and the Puerto Rico Council for Higher Education. Coordinate efforts to document needs assessments, and curriculum activities as well as host and respond to accreditation surveys.

● Recruit, supervise and evaluate a faculty of 90+ professors. During my tenure the student population grew from 200 to over 500 undergraduate and graduate students including a new Master’s degree program.

● Direct ongoing regular curricular assessment, beginning with a needs assessment and complete overhaul of existing academic programs in 1998-2000.

● Directed new program development efforts with, an expansion of career tracks in Music Education, new undergraduate and graduate programs in Jazz and Caribbean Music, Performance, and Conducting. A total of 14 new and accredited programs.

● Direct institutional concert and artistic programming, including guest artist negotiations. Expand program of Visiting Professors and Master classes and engage renowned US and international faculty to teach in our new Master’s degree program.

● Supervise the Office of Student Admissions and Recruitment, including the development and monitoring of cross-cultural institutional student recruitment activities, including an expansion of international recruiting initiatives in the Caribbean region and Central and South America. ● Represent the Conservatory in conferences and symposia in the US as well as Guatemala, Venezuela and the United States.

● Co-Chaired planning committee with diverse institutional and community stakeholders and funders to develop and implement the Conservatory’s 2010-2015 PRCM Strategic Plan. This was the third formal Strategic Planning process undergone by the Conservatory. Previous 2005-2010 Strategic Plan was accomplished in a 90%.

Selected Achievements

• Spearheaded 4 new degrees & programs, including Puerto Rico’s first Master of Music degree in Music Education, both a Master of Music and Graduate Diploma in Performance and a Graduate Diploma in Jazz & Caribbean Music performance. Designed of new Master of Music programs in Piano Pedagogy, Collaborative Piano, and Jazz & Caribbean Music Performance, as well as Bachelor of Music Degrees in Performance and Recording Arts, Music Business and Music Theater and Kodaly Certificate program (approved).

• Developed international exchange programs with institutions such as Columbia College

(Chicago), Berklee College of Music (Boston), Converse College (South Carolina), FESNOJIV

(Caracas, Venezuela), National Conservatory of Peru, Conservatorio de Tolima (Ibague, Colombia), Universidad Tres de Febrero (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Conservatorio Liceu

(Barcelona, Spain), among others.

• Created the centralized National System of Youth Orchestras and Choruses of Puerto Rico, in collaboration with and modeled after the world famous National System of Youth Orchestras and Choruses of Venezuela (“El Sistema”).

• Initiated, planned and completed – in collaboration with the Conservatory’s Provost & the Office of Development – a successful $3.5 million Capital Campaign which provided more than 100 new pianos and other equipment. This effort transformed the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music into an All-Steinway School.

• Created, in direct collaboration with the Provost and 12 major Puerto Rican arts organizations, arteSanturce, an arts alliance whose mission is to promote, develop and finance interdisciplinary arts projects throughout Santurce, the arts district of Puerto Rico’s capital. Our conservatory is located near the Museo de Puerto Rico and the Bellas Artes Performing Arts Center and arteSanturce helps leverage creative programming ideas to revitalize this area of San Juan. This included joint collaborations with the Municipal Arts Schools (Escuelas de Bellas Artes Municipales), and the Department of Education of Puerto Rico with its 29 schools of this district to incorporate the arts in the teaching of the basic areas. Education fairs for the community that included all arts organizations part of the arts alliance.

• Direct effort to digitize Conservatory’s library which included 70,000 volumes. Direct efforts to design and develop Conservatory’s website and continuously expand online presence of the Deanship and the PRCM in general.

I started as faculty at one YSOP site (“Villa España”) where I taught courses in theory, ear-training/aural skills and served as accompanist. Within a year, I was promoted to Director of the site, where I managed personnel and developed and coordinated the curriculum and performance activities including. In 1996, I was promoted to Direct the entire Program, coordinating all educational, performance and administration areas; including a $1.5 million budget. This included activities such as approving and evaluating curricula in all instruments of the orchestra, national concerts, and parent and community relations.
