PROFILE SUMMARY

I am a highly adaptable, result-oriented Registered Nurse (KRCHN) and a member of the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) with first-hand practical experience in both high and medium-level care of patients. I am committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of patients and helping them to recover from their illnesses.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Excellent Communication Skills: I have perfectly mastered how to inform doctors and/or other nurses of patient care at the end of my shift so that they can provide ongoing support. I communicate effectively with patients to keep them calm and I appreciate the diverse nature of patients’ backgrounds i.e.

Geriatric patients – I know how to communicate to elderly patients who may get easily confused regarding their health status.

Younger patients – I have mastered how to deal with children who are unlikely to understand what is going on and are likely to get upset and frustrated easily.

Family members – in a tough situation, family members are more concerned about being next to their loved one, and when they are unable to do this, reasoning with them can become difficult and therefore I have acquired skills on how to calm them down.

Compassionate and Caring: As a nurse, compassion and empathy are at the core of my role; having compassion allows me to provide support for the patient’s family while also having concern for the patient’s suffering. Understanding the patient’s suffering allows me to place myself in their shoes and those of their family. Through this, I make what is an extremely heartbreaking and stressful situation a little bit easier.

Emotionally Supportive to other Nurses: I am an excellent team player. Teamwork gives me the support and guidance required to make informed decisions under pressure.

Adaptive: Every day in the ward is unique, from the patients I care for to the sudden and unexpected situations I must deal with. I can adapt to various environments and unique under pressure situations.

Strong Willed: Particularly when I take care of a patient for a long period of time, it is hard not to get attached, which can make it extremely difficult in the worst-case scenarios. Overtime, I have trained myself to remain emotionally stable and to be able to console the patient’s relatives in the event they lose their loved one.
