-Biochemistry skills acquired:

Refractometer-used to determine the Brix of syrup prepared and Glucose. Water analysis-sampling Deionizedwater, feed water and effluent water and carry out tests on water e.g. presence of heavy metals in water(use color reaction test),conductivity of water,ph of water and also carrying out the tests on effluent water and also carrying out ion exchange particularly on water.

Spectrophotometry-determining the purity of water and use of the UVprobe software. Oven-used to determine the moisture content in raw materials and products(Out bont water) FTIR-use of the OPUS software in identification of the raw materials,packaging materials external products.

Ph meter-calibration of the machine and this was done on the daily basis. Standards used are of ph 4,7 and 9.

Calibration of the analytical balance machine and performing daily checks on the balance Melting and boiling point apparatus used to determine and identify different raw material depending on their specified points of change.

HPLC-Carrying out analysis on related substances, finished products, preparing of the mobile phase, cleaning of the column and the calibration of the HPLC machine and also use of the LCsolutionsoftwarein running of thesamples. In microbiology sector:

Media preparation-weighing of the media then mixing up with the relevant fluid i.e water. Sterilization-using the autoclave for wet sterilization, sterilizing the media prepared,this usually takes 15 minutes with the temperatures of about 1210C.

-Dry sterilization,using the oven and the temperature are between 1800C- 3000C,used to sterilize glassware.

-Chemical sterilization-this is the use of the IPA as the chemical agent.

-Use of the uv light-this was in the Biosafety cabinet where the serial dilution is done.

Microscopy-used to view growth of micro-organism upon incubation for five days which led to carrying out of the streak test.

Use of the fungal incubator and the BOD incubator-both incubators are used for incubation for five days.

Centrifuge-is used to determine the homogeneity of the syrups. This is by use of the centrifugal force, rotating products at a very high speed. ACHIEVEMENTS
