INPEX/Vepica, Valle de La Pascua, Venezuela, Gas Guárico, Copa Macoya gas compression plant, pre start-up safety review/audit specialist.

Inspected a newly built gas compression plant, composed of a couple of CAT/Ariel gas compression modules, and associated equipment prior to start-up. Worked during the pre-start-up safety review/audit, as a gas compression specialist, to make sure all safety devices/equipment installed on plant were calibrated and operative prior start-up (ESD’s, fire detection system, emergency firefighting system, plant’s blow-down/blow-off/block system). Review of all safety devices calibration/loop checks records. Participated in several interviews with Gas Guárico’s key personnel (engineering/operations/maintenance), in order to find out any flaws or outstanding safety items.

LK Enterprises Inc., offshore Trinidad & Tobago, Gas compression specialist (Teak Blow down project).

Responsible of the operation/maintenance of three gas compression trains, composed of a Waukesha L7044GSI gas engine with an ESM controller, driving an Ariel JG4/6 reciprocating gas compressor, located on an offshore oil & gas production platform (Teak Alpha) operated by Repsol YPF, on the Teak gas field. Duties included preventive/corrective, mechanical/electrical/instrumentation maintenance.

Mechanical advisor, to attend several System 1 project PAT (Programa anual de trabajo) meetings with PEMEX (Exploration & Production), stressing on reliability, predictive maintenance, spare parts, and focusing on “Cayo Arcas”,and “Rebombeo” offshore facilities.

Supervisor during the pre-commissioning/commissioning, & start-up, of a 1 billion scfd LNG regasification terminal, owned by Sempra Energy. Among my duties were, but not limited to the following: night shift supervision of plant’s process/instrumentation piping flushing/purging and cleanliness, this involved the air/gas/inert gas pressurization/depressurization/venting/blowing/purging/bleeding/inerting, of all plant’s LNG/process/instrument piping, and following P&ID’s schematics. Control valves removal/inspection/clean-up/assembly. Pipeline fabrication/rigging. Punch list walk-down/update. Supervising a crew of 8 to 10 local semi-skilled/non-skilled personnel (mechanics, welders, pipe fitters, operators, general labor).

Wood Group/Global Resources LTD, Jakarta, Indonesia, Rotating equipment engineer.

Inspected/optimized, six reciprocating gas compressor trains (Ariel/Superior), operated by Star Energy, and located offshore Singapore (Kakap Natuna Field). Had to contact the OEM, in order to simulate the new process conditions, had to get new gas analysis/operating readings from end user, in order to plot new operating curves. Plotted the curves, and made recommendations to end user, regarding acceptable maintenance/operating practices. Had to get recommended spare parts. Had to support offshore maintenance personnel onboard an FPSO, assigned to this project.

Penpower, Cantarell Field, Bay of Campeche, Mexico, Maintenance Manager.

Maintenance Manager, onboard an off-shore gas compression platform (AKAL-GC) belonging to Duke Energy/Marubeni, this facility outputs a total of 300 mmscfd with high H2S content, at a disch.press. of 1000 P.S.I, delivered to PEMEX (the Mexican state owned oil company). Among my duties were, but not limited to: planning of preventive/corrective/scheduled (10 K Hour plant shutdown ) maintenance,by using a CMMS (GP-Mate), on every major equipment onboard (2 RR-Allisons gen-sets, 1 Seatrax crane, 1 emergency recip. Gen-set, 3 I-R XLE recip. Instrument air compressors, process equipment (dryers, heat exchangers, process pumps), 2 Diesel driven fire-fighting pumps, R.O water maker units, 3 gas turbine driven centrifugal compressors (G.E LM-2500/Nuovo Pignone), had to keep track/log/order, missing consumables/spares, had to contact vendors/3rdparty contractors, supervised 4 I/E techs., 6 mechanics, 1 I/E supervisor

Mechanic (Facilities Maintenance), onboard an off-shore deepwater oil & gas production platform (Ursa TLP), belonging to Shell Offshore Inc. Duties included the inspection/replacement of wire ropes on 3 Seatrax cranes, corrective/preventive maintenance on process pumps, R.O water maker units, monitoring of operational readings on 4 Solar Taurus turbo gen-sets, inspection of life rafts. Offshore the state of Louisiana, Mississippi Canyon, block MC-809.
