Speech Communication Aide

Assists licensed Speech Pathologists in the implementation of educational and treatment plans for individuals with speech and language disorders via the utilization of low tech and high tech communication devices with the common goal of teaching intentional, functional communication skills for students’ progress in their IEP goals and objectives. Assists with the preparation of instructional materials related to treatments; assists SLPs with the gathering and the interpretation of data on students’ needs and progress for SLP’s IEPs meetings.

In accordance with students’ ABA program, BIP and IEP, provides 1:1 academic and behavioral intervention services to students on the ASD and/or with other special needs during the school day in academic and non-academic activities. Expert in high visual programs and repetitive trials alike to the DTT-ABA approach. Responsible for Individual Instructional and Behavioral Supervision and Support for students with an Emotional Disturbance in a 1:1 format in order to facilitate the student's participation in appropriate public education. Focus is on communication, functional skills, and behaviors that impair a student's ability to learn, offering prevention, early intervention, and intensive services closely tied to educational activities.

Experienced in providing support services to professionals directly engaged in the academic, personal, and social development of children. Implemented educational plans, treatment plans, as well as interventions independently and/or under direct supervision of professional staff, such as Special Education and General Education Teachers, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Administration, Psychologists, and Behavioral Health Specialists. One of my duties was to work under the direct supervision of a HIDOE Speech Pathologist. In detail, I worked under her direct supervision and assisted her in the implementation of educational and treatment plans for individuals with speech and language disorders via the utilization of low tech and high tech communication devices (PECS, tablets, and other devices.) Gathered, tracked, charted, entered client data and related information in the database; analyzed and interpreted behavioral data and communicated results to the team. Participated in the development of the action plan and developed tentative conclusions as to recommended, most effective interventions available and effective strategies. Ensured an effective learning environment.

Helped students progress on their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs.) Insured the confidentiality of assigned student records in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Title I Paraprofessional

Town and Country Elementary School - Sierra Vista, AZ September 2010 to May 2011

Worked as Title I Paraprofessional with individual students and small groups of students. Utilized research and evidence-based reading programs with individual students, grade K-6, in order to assist them with communication skills, reading, and comprehension. Monitored Accelerated Readers and Accelerated Math afterschool programs, grade K-6. Three of the students I taught raised their grade point average enough that they were no longer required to attend Title I classes.
